Agreed. MC was excellent when fighting NPCs and the computer. However...

Agreed as well. You both have good points.
The MC is best used against vulnerable and unprotected worker units. That way, you can build up a good army (Zerg for me, preferably) that can back up your main one. Taxing on the cash, yes, but SO worth it.
Also, each race, if used correctly, can perfectly counter the other. Bad idea to say it was a game of RPS Aztec, it's not.
I just recently started playing SC again, and I must say, I love it even more now than ever before. Of course, I've been playing RPG's for the last little while, so...

Maybe if you're a complete noob, or have no experience with the game on anything other than single player with cheats on, this may be true. However, in COMPETITIVE multiplayer games, if you're stupid enough to try to make a second base with another race you will get your ass kicked before you know whats happening to you. The enormous waste of resources on gaining all new technologies isn't worth spending considering the 200 supply max is more than enough to beat any player.
Maybe you should get some actual experience with the game before you start calling me dumb, Aztec. There's a REASON the best Starcraft players in the world don't use that strategy- it doesn't work!
|
Also agreed. Nobody, in their right mind, would go up against a human and apply the MC Race strategy. Anybody who does, just resign. Plain and simple. No good player ever loses to that strategy.
What people have to realise is, yes you do get another race with which to build up, and many more opportunities, but...
The mineral/gas cost, the effort cost (it's almost impossible to effectively manage two races at once in a serious game), and the time cost (which you just don't have in Human vs. Human games) are way too much.
To put it simply, only noobs will go up against another person with that. Fighting a computer, it's fine, they're predictable, but a human? Not a chance.

Well, Leki checked out the website, and am hoping to get the game! But sadly, it seems to resemble Warcraft in graphics, or at least fro ma few pictures Leki saw... I can't see why so many people seem to like Warcraft over Starcraft. Maybe it was because I started out with Starcraft first...
but any who, ZERG RULES. I love attacking with a batallion of upgraded Zerglings and Hydralisks for those crabby things for back-up, maybe a few of the exploding flying things for good measure. (sudden loss of memory for names). Leki is pretty good with Terrans, but horrible with Protoss. I always left the Protoss race for a buddy I used to play with back in middle school when he visited. Was great fun, as I played defense and backup while he went and slaughtered with a massive attack force.
Anybody wanna somebody to fight? I'll fight head on with yah over the internet. MAWHA!

The Protoss are the best race!
You just have to get used to building all the things inside the pylons and that means figuring out ahead of time where to build them and other considerations like that.
As for the Zerg, I never really liked them, myself. I mean, the hordes of Zerglings that you could create were nice, but they always get mowed down by a dozen siege tanks in siege mode in seconds.

I so beat you all to this thread.
In light of the announced Starcraft II, I demand that this thread be revived xD
And, bloody hell, I wish they'd hurry up and show us the Zerg demo. Or, better yet, just hurry up with the game so I can get my fix of Kerrigan.

I've been a huge fan of Starcraft since I first bought it years back. I originally bought it because my cousin showed me Warcraft 2 on his mac and I really liked it. It was like Command & Conquer but more amusing. So when Starcraft was released, I bought that after buying Warcraft 2 for myself. I have to say that it's my favourite RTS game for computer. Warcraft 3 is great too but I played Starcraft before that so it takes first place in my choice of RTS.

Hmm, never heard of it. From the sound of it, looks pretty good. I bought WoW a few hours ago for my bro though...didn't see Starcraft. =(

Getting a hold of the original StarCraft for PC is very hard now. It was released in '98 after all. It might be available on Valve's Steam though, haven't checked.
Still, it wasn't an excellent RTS, but in my opinion, there are better ones - Empire Earth, WoW, and of course, the sublime Age of Empires.
Of course, there is no denying the immense popularity of the game. In Korea, it's a huge franchise, and it's no surprise that it will be released there first (I think so anyway). They even hold massive multiplayer tournaments of the game, which are often televised, and resulting winners usually become massive celebrities.

I'd imagine so. The premier trailer was first released in Korean and Korean people dominate most of battle.net, even on the European server.
