Is that just in this game? There's finally a way to avoid it?

The blue shells add a little comedy to the game. They're so annoying you have to laugh.

From what i understand, Rosalina should be unlocked if you have a mario galaxy file saved on your wii.

The blue shells always affected other racers, not just in the wii game. If you were close enough the explosion hit you. Also in the N64 version, it could smack you as it flew by. I know its dodgeable in Double Dash version, but its so hard and alot depends on luck.

Nah, you could do that very same thing on Double Dash. It doesn't negate the blue shell. You still lose some time. Timing the landing for the boost certainly helps you salvage a little time, at least.

If the second place racer is close behind, I'll just step on the brake a little and allow them to pass me. The blue shell should go after them instead. Slowing down probably isn't as bad as getting hit.
