Well, I know that there's a version planned for DS, but not sure when it's due for a release.

I am also a fan of the Fire Emblem series. Super Smash Bros. Melee is what led me to become a Fire Emblem fan. Marth happened to be my favorite character in the game. Ever since then, Fire Emblem overtook Mario as my favorite Nintendo game series. Fire Emblem Gaiden, a 1991 Japan only Famicom/NES release, was my first Fire Emblem game. I was introduced to Fire Emblem even before Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken for the GBA first came out. I have played Fire Emblem games up to Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, including the Japan-only releases. My favorite Fire Emblem game is Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu, a 1996 Japan-only release for the Super Famicom/SNES. During later my takes on that game, a black-haired swordswoman happened to overtake Marth as my favorite Nintendo character. She started one of the most popular Fire Emblem classes, called "Swordmaster." She was known for starting the special skill called Ryuuseiken, or Astra as it is called in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. Her name is Ayra (known in Japan as Ira).

The only version of FE I've ever played and own is The Sacred Stones on the GBA. I do have a love of the SRPG genre with the Nippon Ichi titles and this does stand out as a great little title, probably better than even the Advance Wars titles although to be fair they do slightly work differently.
If the DS title proves to work as well as SS then I would consider it a worthwhile purchase. The fact that it apparently revolves around Marth is a plus for me.

I played the Wii version first of all, and really liked it. Then I bought Path of Radiance, so I stopped playing Radiant Dawn for a while. Gotta say that they excellent games, despite the fact that many people find them boring/bad. Anyway, right now I can't play any of 'em, until my Wii gets fixed, :S

I love Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken.
However.
That game is difficult. I still haven't finished it. (I admit, I gave up after a few months.) Oddly, it was refreshing to play a game that difficult. I like it when Japanese companies trust American gamers to play difficult RPGs. I'm sure I'll go back and finish it eventually. I really wanted the Gamecube and Wii titles, but the Wii actually belongs to my brother, and he doesn't want to buy it. (I have a PS3.)
I can't wait for a DS version.

I've played a few of these games, and I've liked them. Sacred stones was way too easy, but still enjoyable. I borrowed path of radiance (along with a gamecube) from a friend to play, and I like how they brought back a lot of elements from the older snes games though something I couldn't put my finger on irritated me slightly about the game.

I heard Ike is extremely overpowered. Is that the irritating thing?
I regret not playing Sacred Stones because I've heard there are actually chances to train your characters in that game. One of the things that made Rekka no Ken so difficult is the fact that you go from one plot battle to the next with no breaks, meaning it's tough to not rely on a few strong characters. I'm actually stuck on a bonus battle right now. (Maybe I should have stuck with the main storyline...)

In sacred stones, you can fight monsters between chapters as much as you want. It really ends up making the game way to easy. I will say, though, that sacred stones did have a lot of good characters.

I see. I guess there would be a temptation to overpower your team.
I like that these games make you think. It's hard to win a battle by just rushing in. You really have to think about things like healing range, enemy spawn points and timing before making a single move. Thrilling!
