Zodiarc
Beating Zodiarc using quickenings when he has little health is quite easy so I tried fighting him without them and found this esper near impossible, I've tried magic/physical attacks, techniques and items which dont work, so how can you beat it?

Seriously? I found him ludicrously easy. xD (I must apologise for the untidiness of this post, my enter key has frozen up and refuses to work. Word of the wise: don't drink alcohol near your keyboard!).
(Oh, look at that, thumping it seems to work.) Anyway, I had Balthier, Basch and Ashe with a Gambit set-up that you'll find in the "Specialising your Characters" thread. I was level 87, though numbers of people have accomplished this at a lower level. He uses dark attacks, so Black Masks are essential for absorbing most of the damage. He has a Shift attack, which shifts his elemental weakness (much like Spherimorph in X) and so, while Excalibur might seem ideal against a dark monster, it may end up healing him.
As long as you have a substantial supply of Phoenix Downs, you should be fine. I recommend casting Hastega, Protectga and Shellga, along with Bubble (Belts) and Bravery.
Darkja can inflict death on the entire party, though the percentage is so minute that only one of my characters died each time he unleashed said attack. He only did so twice, anyway.

I just want to know if anything can get to hm during his last 1/4 health when he seems to become invincible.

You have to wait until his Paling is gone, then reflect Scathe onto him. Of course, in his last 1/4 of health he uses steroids, so make sure you keep your shell and protect in order. To reduce the chances of Darkja OHKO'ing you, equip black masks and use shell.
That Darkja kills people a HELL of a lot more than a few times. Nearly everytime he used it took out a char. Even though I died, the battle lasted for 2 1/2 hours, and I learned a thing or two.
Don't reflect Scathe. It takes up way too much MP and Shock works just as well. Another bonus!! Shock doesn't overload the queue board at all, so it's pwn heaven on Zodiark's ass. I'll go back and take him down when I got Ultima. I'm OCD about order like that.
