There's different methods to defeating him. You can cast berserk on him so he can stop spamming you with magic attacks. You'll probably defeat him faster this way.
You should also cast Shell on your party as soon as the battle begins. If he casts Slow on you, be sure to cast Haste on your party. Other than that, attack attack attack. He almost has no physical defense, so physical attacks should get rid of him.
If you still can't defeat him, I suggest leveling up a few more levels in the area.

well, when i fought him i just used my strongest magic and set my tank loose on it while using bravery and faith to boost power, if you don't have them yet i suggest you get them unless you just want to level up and beat him the old fashioned way

What level are your characters? I was around level 30 when I first tried this battle, and got totally pwned several times before I realized I didn't stand a chance. The easiest way to win is probably just to level up loads - until you'll have no trouble killing him with regular attacks.

Use a shit load of quickenings (level 3) and from there use your best esper if you have MP left. for best results use the charge technick after using your quickening/espers then you can go a second round of quickening/esper fun!

Note: Zalera (killing esper) doesn't work very much

This is an Elite hunt so it's a lot harder than the normal ones. Use strong fire magic and fire weapons if you have like Wyrmfire Shot and such. If you can, try to summon Belis but I believe he use water spells so cast a Reflect on Belis. He won't be able to finish him so you have to depend on your party.
