As soon as you go into the lighthouse, there's an elevator. The subterra consists of 4 floors (The 4th only appears after you accept a certain Mark)

The Subterra is the name for all of the lower levels. I think the place Gabranth mentioned is just called "Unknown", and is accessible during The Seer's hunt.
