So I've noticed.
I was surprised when I took a look at Omega's health. I was expected 10,000,000 when I looked at the book, but noticed that that was only for the Japanese version, as you state.
I found a slowly, but surely way to defeat him. This may have been used before, though I set up my Gambit order as follows:
1. Ally: any - Arise
2. Ally: any - Reverse
3. Self: MP < 10% - Charge
4. Foe: Highest HP - Attack
Very simple, and very easy. It takes a bit longer to defeat him, though I encountered no problems whatsoever when using this Gambit order. Having Curaga as an additional slot is not necessary. Your character will either be Reversed by another ally, thus healing him/her when Omega strikes that character, or be revived (Arise) by another character, then Reversed by the other. I believe you know what Charge is.
I also used heavy (2H) weapons, seeing as how shields don't seem to have any effect in terms of blocking his attacks. It's a slow process, otherwise, noone should encounter too much trouble if the Gambits are in the proper order.
Also, be sure to keep up Haste after the effect has dispersed.
