Can anyone help me beat the GF Cactuar?
Can anyone know of an effective way to defeat Cactuar? Af first Cactuar with its silly looking appearance would be easy to defeat but although I put a good fight, I ultimately had my butt handed to me by this overgrown cactus creature. A wise teacher once said to never underestimate your opponent and that is a lesson that I intend to apply whenever I play JRPG games with cute looking enemies. So I am asking anyone here if they know of anyway to defeat Cactuar so that I get him as my GF?

Basically just pound him with limit breaks. Cast Aura to benefit you greatly, and cast water-based attacks at him combined with the Triple spell (make sure the character it's equipped with has a high MAG), or use Leviathan but it might take you longer if you use him and I'm sure you're trying to avoid the 1000 Needles. Meltdown also works as well.

Meltdown + limit break spamming = victory.
Cactaur king is always a bastard, though. I always at least lose one character to him. D :
find those gay worm things and draw a ton of Tornado magic for Squall if you're a high enough level to draw tornado. Tornado is like, the best magic you can get for attack junction, and is really just all around good to put on any stat.
But ya, FFVIII revolves around the use of the draw system and refining shit. It's really the key to beating the game, more than anything else.

Meltdown, aura and Leviathan are all good to use, obviously make sure you have a high strength stat because he has an awful lot of HP and when the bugger starts hesitating just try to bash him as much you can or the git will escape.
10,000 needles will kill anyone of your characters straight away so just make sure you have life/full life handy
If you don't already have Lionheart, I suggest going getting the materials for it so you have the chance of using the lionheart limit

Just have high strength with squall and high health for the rest so they can heal him.
Like bambi said, Meltdown, Aura and Lionheart will kill anybody in the game, Cactuar King is no exception.
I'll assume that your party consists of Squall, Zell and Selphie. Zell should have high strength, so junction water to elemental attack, so if you don't need to heal or buff up squall just attack Cactaur. Have selphie junction Leviathon so that she can attack with him if you want to.
Don't bother with full-life, as 10,000 needles will kill you regardless. Just keep attacking, I actually found Cactaur pretty easy.

Well, if it has not been mentioned above...If you have Leviathan, use him. Cactuar is weak against water type magic.
Ah, if you have Aura stones, use them as well. Other than that...have high defense and strength and hack away!! Use Malestorm too.

I beat Cactuar by having one of my characters, usually Selphie, as pure support.
Have her cast triple, and then cast haste, aura, and protect. Use her [or your support character] to heal when necessary.
Cactuar's the kind of character that you really need to dedicate a support character for. That should help, though.

Honestly, I wouldn't waste my time on Protect because he can still kill you with the 10,000 needle ability. I say concentrate on reviving, haste, aura, and the like.

I only have three aura stones and I do not want to waste them. Do I get more aura stones later in the game?
