Best time to start? - Page 2

Like Busta said, X is a good place to start. It was my first FF. The gameplay is easy to get, but it's a lot of fun. VII is also another title that can be recommended. Both games have amazing storylines. So it's up to you to decide which one you would like to start with.

IX was my first and i didnt find it confusing at all o_O It's a really good game for newbies though. The story isnt confusing (for most, anyway), it's easy to get a hang of the armour and ability system, and the game is easy too. Not to say it wont provide a challenge in some parts, but it's not overly difficult and you dont have to do alot of level grinding in the game. Get to lvl 9 or 10 in the Evil Forest (first stage of the game) and bam, you've set yourself for a relatively easy time on the first two discs.

VI is also a good game for newbies, it's not too difficult either and the characters and story are just bloody awesome. Out of all the FFs, IX and VI have the best character development and the stories are really good.

VII is good for newbies too but it CAN be quite confusing. It eventually clears up the confusion, but it's no fun to be confused for the first two discs. Character development isnt quite as good either. And before you VII fanboys go on the attack, i'm talking character development, as in watching the character's personality grow throughout the story as a result of events, not how cool the character is. Tifa is cool, Barret is cool, Vincent is way cool, but do you see their personalities grow or change over the story? No.

So go with IX or VI. If you want to start off on a game with better graphics IX is good because it's done old-school style and has alot of references to the older games.
