How long does it take you to beat a game?

I got this idea from reading various posts around the forum saying, "I just now finished Crisis Core!" ...and it's only been out for a little over a week now.

So, how long does it normally take you to finish a game? (Of course, this is pertaining more to RPG/Action/Adventure games and not something like Tetris.) Why does it take you that amount of time to finish a game? Is it because you're so interested in the game that you just can't seem to put the controller down? (Or handheld system, whatever.) Or perhaps you're simply not as interested and have to practically force yourself to finish a game?

It usually takes me 3 - 6 months to finish a game, no matter how simple it is. I sometimes lose interest in the midst of playing, (although very rare) replay it later down the road, and then finally finish it. Sometimes it even takes as long as a year, but that's rare. I don't think I've ever played an RPG game and finished it under 3 months. I believe it takes me that long because of the need to level up all my characters.

Forcing myself to finish a game is hardly a factor for me since I always seem to find something enjoyable about a game that not only pushes me to play it, but also makes me dread the ending of a gameplay. (That usually happens with Final Fantasy games - I don't ever seem to want the game to end since I love playing it so much.)

I think how much i like a game is the major factor in how long it takes me to finish a game.
and what other stuff, ie school work, i have to do at that moment in time.

On average, it takes me about two months, i like to go out most weekends, and sometimes i like to read a book. But on some weekends i just lay in bed playing a game.

also whether i'm playing the game for the first time is important, if im playing it for the first time, i tend to rush through it, mostly for the story.
However if i've already finished it, the story isnt the main thing, i was playing FFX a couple of weeks ago and i got blitzace whilst still on the mihen highroad.

I often get bored of games and switch half way through, so that just increases the time it takes. I dont think i ever have to force myself to finish a game, because that wouldnt be enjoyable, so i just wouldn't, ya know?

so, i'd say it depends on the game and other things, but like i said before, about two months

the FF/RPG games always takes me too much time to beat 60-100 hours with the side quest.

the other takes me between 6-15 hours to beat.

Due to time constraints through work, and occasionally having to work at home, I don't have nearly as much time as I once did to play video games. Used to take me about a week to complete your average game [of any genre], and about 2 - 3 weeks for something like Final Fantasy.

Now, however, it'd probably take me approximately a month. Can't estimate for FF, seeing as I've completed all the ones I have immediate access to [it'd take me a couple of days now seeing as I know where to go and best routes to take etc].

So generally around a month to complete a game, I'd say.

I'm pretty much the same but exchange work for school. Now that it's the school holidays, however, I was able to finish all three Kingdom Hearts games within a week, purely because I had nothing planned for this week. Had I attempted this when I was back at school, I'd still be flailing around Traverse Town.

It depends on the game for me, too. Obviously, every game differs in length but for something like Final Fantasy, it does take me around about the same time period.

I don't actively rush myself to beat a game simply to have some sort of sense of accomplishment because I beat it so fast. I like to enjoy it, which would explain my 100+ hour exploits on most main series FF games...

I used to beat them stupidly fast like within a couple of weeks, now tho, due to the length of the games/lack of interest or what ever it can take me months, longer even....I started ages ago and Im still not that far into it....this ones gunna take me years just through sheer bone idleness

I fondly remember destroying FFVII & VIII in no time then Id go back to 100% them best I could and even then it didnt take me as long as it does now

Really depends on the difficulty, amount of free roaming and sidequests, how interested I am, etc.

Generally, it can take me up to 2 months to complete a FF bit by bit, or for shooters, well, I rush through, then get stuck somewhere, and come back in a few days, get past that, rush some more, etc.

I can't exactly say a set amount of time, but approximately it takes around a week or so for me to complete a game. Of course, this time can decrease or increase depending on the length of the game, difficulty and other features of the game which include side-quest, puzzles, etc.

For example, most FF games consist on going to certain locations without any troublesome puzzles. On the hand, games like Resident Evil takes more thought to beat certain puzzles in order to move on to the next area.
