Best battle system in FF series
Which do you think is the best battle system in FF series? FFIV, FFV, FFVII, FFX, ....? Well, tell me something.

Well up until FFX, they were all remotely similar. I quite liked the old school ATB systems, but I like the way FFX implemented the character swapping.

Best battle system was Final XII. More realistic that fighters would rush to attack and bow users would move towards the back, but stay within range. The system flowed nicely, the auto-settings made for easier management, yet the system still allowed for turn-based attacking so it wasn't all about stick skills like the FF VIII gunblade triggers. I hope SE continues along the same lines and just continues tweaking the system to make it better.
I do agree that switching in Final X was easier and made more sense. Why couldn't we add that element to Final XII's and just have a quick "trigger" method of switching party members in and out. Besides, if they do have to restrict us to a certain number of active characters, wouldn't it make sense to just keep a knocked out character on the ground where they were beaten and have a quick pop up or auto-selected character replace them?

VI. While all the characters could use magic they all had their own ability that made them unique. (Terra had morph, Sabin had blitz) It was always fun to switch the party around and see how well the new characters worked together.
I like IV's battle system too. You were allowed to use five characters, which is a plus. And you never got to choose your party (until the GBA version) so it offered a challenging gameplay since there were some characters you didn't know what to do with. (Edward for example) You also didn't always have the majority of your party being brute force. (There were times when you had three mages and two fighters to work with.

I liked X the best, becasue of the CTB, easily one of the best. Depending on what you did that turn, would affect when you went next. My second would have to be X-2, simply becasue, of all the motion. When they attack, they would move to a different spot, that was good, too bad it was a bad game though

Again, the same needs/wants are always repeated when battle systems are discussed. The ability to switch out characters, being able to integrate all characters into the party despite their skillset, a more realistic flow to the battle, etc... I sincerely hope our battle systems continue to evolve as our hardware continues to evolve.

Actually, all I liked about it is what I stated earlier, the CTB, depending on the move you use, it will effect the turn you go on later on. I couldn't care less about switicing people out or realism

My favorite is FFXII but I comment others too before commenting FFXII battle system.
FFII or VIII are the worst battle systems and IX has problems too. II battles tend to be too long because you spend a lot time wounding your characters and using magic so your stats go up, it was pretty annoying when I could sometimes use ten minutes in one battle many times.
VIII Junction system just simply sucks too, it makes battles too long and I hate lack of MP although I-III lacked it too but Iīm fine with them.
IX was fine but it was too slow, trance-system was otherwise okay but not being able to use them when you wanted was bad. Characters switching during battle would have been very useful in this since each had their own unique abilities.
FFX is good but it makes game too easy. Sprehe grid is nice but towards end all characters are almost same.
FFXII is the best because it is easy to level up if let gambits do the work but if you want have challenge then you donīt have to use them. Also there is many different weapons and not just each character can use their own unique weapons ( although it is more logical) . Many forgotten FF-weapons like axes made return and new like hand bombs. Captainbill47 pretty much said everything about this awesome battle system.

FFX for me. It has just the right amount of the classic ATB elements from the older games, while providing enough innovation to make itself distinguishable.

I like classic ATB... FFXII's just sucks...
It's like... 'Hey, how about you continue to beat the living crap outta me while I'm strategizing? kthxbai!'
Yes, a turn-based system takes more time, but it helps you actually care about the strategy of the thing... FFXII was just a menu-based hack-&-slash where you just sit back until the fight is over... If they want real time battle systems, they should lose the damn menu...
