Things Final Fantasy could improve on?
alright so since a lot of people are complaining about how FFXII wasn't that good of a game (or at least from the majority of opinions ive seen or heard), what exactly do you think square should do differently?
for one thing, i think they need to revive the world map you can explore yourself. i also think they should give every FF the online battle arena option, where you could battle other people's parties to see just how good you really are. these are just ideas of mine, how about yours?

Getting rid of frigging Nomura and letting Amano take over character design again. I'm sick of seeing generic looking anime characters, i want Amano's unique characters that had depth to them. If i wanted anime characters i would go buy a damn Naruto game.

I freakin' love you! Everyone I know who likes FF or KH thinks Nomura is god. He can't even design characters that well. I mean, what the hell are Tidus, Wakka and Nooj wearing?! Did they piece together those clothes themselves?!
Nomura f*cking ruined Zidane for Dissidia T_T
Amano on the other hand, rocks. Sure, his characters aren't always properly proportioned, but at least they had a unique style. Nomura's are generic. The only character designs I like of his are Yuna (X) and Lulu.
I also like the designers who designed the cast of IX and XII, not sure who did they are though.
Final Fantasy should return to its roots, in my opinion. SE are riding on the VII-fann00b wagon and are trying to rake in the money with more so called brilliance with the Fabula Nova Crystallis. Stand alone games > Spin-offs. Direct sequels IF DONE WELL (I.e: not X-2) can work. Spin-offs made to whore out characters? No.

I agree with both of you, the party in FFXII was a generic band of assorted heroes, boring. Old skool FF still rules, where are the classic Black Mages, eh? I want unique characters! The ones in FFX werent as bad as the ones in FFXII though.

After Final Fantasy XII. I would like to see the World Map brought back and the battle system much improved. I would love it to be turn-based but that won't happen so a much improved battle system that doesn't require the A.I. to do all the battling for you then that will do me.

My god these forums are amazing O_O I've found people who agree with me that Kuja's a better villian than Sephi and now i'm finding people who agree that Amano is better!
The anime look is so damn boring, and thats all Nomura knows how to do. People praise him so much...well um, pretty much anyone could make characters like his if they wanted, the most complex character of his i've seen is Vincent. Amano doesnt draw by anime textbooks though, his art looks alot more Chinese in style and it's alot more interesting and complex.
Amano did the design for IX, but for XII it was Akihiko Yoshida, who did Tactics (PSone) and Vagrant Story.
And i agree Cactuar, i would love to see the oldschool black mage look return. It just fits black mages better when they look that way rather than trying to stuff their gigantic breasts into a gothic dress.

On Wikipedia it says that Shuko Murase was the character designer for IX :\ I know Amano did some promotional designs of the characters though, my favourite of his being Freya <3
I think Classes should be re-introduced. Maybe something between Pre-defined and Definable classes to please everyone. I mean, in IX, even the characters who didn't have magical powers had their own array of abilities to make up for it. Again, most notably Freya's "Dragon" abilities.
I think they should spice things up. Instead of having the characters' jobs mashed together like XII, they should be more defined to make those characters more unique. I mean, right now I'm playing FF3 for the DS, and I have everyone a different class. If my White Mage goes down, I know I'm screwed It adds the element of STRATEGY to the game. In XII and possibly X if you max out the grid, anyone can resurrect or heal party members.
I think Magic needs the "Wow!" factor again. Even XII's Flare wasn't particularly interesting ... especially if you compare it to IX's Flare
Also, entirely for promotional and squealing Fanboy/Fangirl purposes, they should make posters of every FF character rendered in full PS3 graphics. I'd defintely buy them!
Akihiko Yoshida, you say? He was the character designer for the DS FF3 I loved his designs, especially the Freelancer designs.

*gets out my IX manual*
Oops, you're right, it is Murase. I just kinda assumed it was Amano since all the character drawings i've seen are done by him (although that would explain why Necron looks completely different in Amano's drawing) Either way the designer isnt Nomura. And i DO know it's Yoshida who did Tactics and XII, since i actually did look in the manuals for those.
I definitely agree with you about predefined classes. It does add so much more strategy to have a party of a Knight, Thief, White Mage and Black mage than say, a party of four people where all the people use knight weapons and armour, can steal, and can also use black and white magic. That way you not only have to worry about dealing damage, but you need to keep your mages alive and know how many turns you can afford to try to steal something. And IX's flare was nothing compared to Doomsday ^^
Meh, 3D rendered posters (or wall scrolls) would be cool, but i'd much rather have a wall scroll of say, this: http://www.ffcompendium.com/art/9-necron-a.jpg
Oh and one more improvement SE should make: they should start caring about making quality games again, instead of just whoring FF7

Can't be bothered debating so..
1. Main characters. Seriously, the amount of main heroes and heroines in FF that really make me think good grief - really need a reality check. Make them more interesting, more believable.
2. Hrmm..FFXII covered the whole random battle thing. I always see it as not being an important part of Final Fantasy so there. However, I'd like to see in the future something similar to X-2's dressphere system combined with the license grid in XII. Apparently this is similar to what is in this new version of XII, but I have heard you can only be one class, which is a pile of crap. I'd have it so you'd have so many little grids, and you'd get different classes once you accomplish certain missions or even secret ones. You would unlock squares, and when everything has been unlocked, you would stop getting license points. You'd be able to change classes, but only out of battle.
That's my only main concerns at the moment.
