X had it the best I think, shoulda stuck with that, I did miss the exploring the world map shizz at first but I soon got used to it.
XII just took it too far with the battle system and the endless endless bits of land to wander across
Id absolutely love to see the equippable items tho, would make it feel abit more personal
Iv not voted 'cause I think Im somewhere inbetween

I've actually not played any of the original games...I've only had a hand at playing FFVI-FFXII, so I can't say in all fairness what I like more. But I hear that FFIX was a retouch on the "roots" of final fantasy.
I think that if I played the older games, I might not be as in tune to them because I'm so used to the new generation games.
I am a big fan of hugely complex plots, and character development, and...the super old games don't seem to offer as much *moosh*. Maybe I'm wrong. =x

I kinda like where this new style is going. I haven't really played most of the older games in the series, but from what I can tell so far, the old style offers sentimental memories for those who's been hooked to the series ever since it came out many years ago. That I respect and understand, so I really have nothing against older styles. They tend to be fun and straight to the point...you know, something like, "simple, short and sweet." That's just how I would personally describe it.
As for the newer styles, they are trying to be more innovative and I really see no problem with that. It's refreshing in a way, but I would prefer if they bring back the non-linear world map. It's just a personal taste of mine. Other than that, they've done great with storylines and more in-depth characters so far, not to mention the various unique features that makes the game its own "Final Fantasy" in the series.
So I'm really aiming more towards the newer styles despite the fact that there's also quite a few things I enjoyed with the older styles.
