Most challenging FF game

so what's the most challenging you've ever played in the main series? mine I'm gonna say it's FF5. and then 8.

how could anyone vote FFIX the hardest? the only time ive got game over is battling Ozma.FF7,8,9 and 10 are no way near as hard as the classics

personnaly i think its out of FFII and FFIV

IM CURENTLY PLAYING THE ROM OF FFII at College ive got out of the first town and have been training up on the map if you walk to far you get some reall nasty emenies that will slaughter you like the ones in teh 1st battle!

and as for FFIV i have the PSone version im up to that grey mountain part with the bomb bosses,i beat them once but the next battle killed me off.ive kinda left that game for a long time now

and on FFV Im stuck on this mamoth boss where the crystal is spose to be and from now on i hate mamoths

but its either FFIV or FFII

Yeas, I remember that damn mammoth in V, took me a couple of tries to beat him. It took me by quite a surprise to find an early boss to be so difficult.

Still, I found IV to be even more difficult, I remember actually having to give up on my first playthrough and starting again, got caught going back into Baron whilst woefully under-levelled.

Out of the ones I've played I'd nominate those two.
Out of the newer ones I'd say XII is probably the most difficult.

Old titles: 1, 2 - With 1, things were very costly, and enemies could really hurt you. Same with 2, but in 2, if you walked into the wrong area, you'd be up against some real nasties. That, and the battle system could be awkward.

Newer titles: XII - some of the hunts and rare game could be a nightmare, if you're not careful while playing.

the mammoth boss only killed me once but i just got some monks and knights and then had no trouble

FFV was pretty hard in a few areas I thought, but also FFXII kicked my butt at certain spots as well. I think since FFV was my first Old School FF to play, it was quite challenging to adapt to it's style of gaming and decide the best ways to level up and choose abilities for characters.

So FFV gets my vote, then FFXII.

FFII i found that game a real struggle! the monsters would be easy in one area then impossible in the next.

FFV was also difficult in parts. I always got killed by the boss in the cave- the one where u get the admantine from. i stopped playing FFV for like a year cuz i couldnt beat him.
But overall i think FFII was the hardest

The most challenging is currently XII with all of these monster hunts. =[

FFVII was also hard for me the first time I ever played it...since it was my first FF game. ^__^

I voted FFV for the old ones bcoz the dungeons have unique challenges. I find the ability system entertaining for an early game. and of course who wouldn't miss Omega and Shinryu? lol even in FFI DOS they're unforgettable.
