Well, I suppose I agree that FFXII is a bit more on the mature side due to the political situations in the story. Yes, I know that politics are usually included in the FF series, no matter how subtle, but in FFXII, it was just that "in your face" type of politics. I imagine that if a 12-year-old were to play FFXII, they most likely won't bother to read the text and figure out what's going on story-wise because the language seems a tad bit different from your typical Final Fantasy game. So yes, to a certain degree, FFXII targets more of the mature players because the game itself is plenty mature.

FFVII...could be considered mature too, but not as much as FFXII, in my opinion. There were a lot of comic mischief in this game, and the dialogue and language isn't really what I'd call "mature". Story-wise though - it's definitely up there to a point where it makes you think and research the events of the game in order to fully grasp and comprehend the complex plot. I suppose that's mature in a way, as your thinking process will surely be at work here.

I've said this before but, XII isn't really mature, the vast majority of people understood every word.

Its' story line may be political, but mature is not a synonym for boring. Which it is, it's cliched and it has no character development. Also the characters themselves were boring, Vaan and Ashe may as well not have existed. Balthier and Basche's characters were incredibly unoriginal.

The game may be a bit more mature than other games, but it has a boring story. Which cannot be excused by saying it was mature.

It really all depends on how one views it, I guess. A lot of people do view the game as mature, while many others don't either. And while a lot of people understood the words, that doesn't mean they didn't view the game as mature either. It's not really about the language, but rather the whole feel of the game, most especially the storyline.

And no, mature is not a synonym for boring. Not at all, so I agree with you on that. Just because something is mature doesn't mean it's automatically viewed as boring.

Personally, I didn't really think the storyline was boring, but it also just didn't interest me as much as the previous FF titles. Did I think the game was mature based on that aspect alone? Not at all. There were a lot of factors included as to why I thought the game could be viewed as mature in my eyes. Just the whole feel of the FFXII world and its environment, the way everything was set up, how the characters interacted with each other as if they were all set on business and have a serious intent and role to play, etc...that's not even half the reason why I think of the game as mature.

I haven't played XII, but I'd definitely say Tactics was the more mature storyline of the FFs...I guess there's just no foolin' around in that Ivalice place, eh?

Cid and Barret are intense.

But yeah, the FF12 storyline was definitely the most mature because of the fact that it's all politics and junk. With other Final Fantasy games, they're "LET'S SAVE THE WORLD AND FALL IN LOVE!" while with Final Fantasy 12, it's "LET'S SAVE THE KINGDOM AND RESTORE THE PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT AND..." all of that other stuff. Although I guess it's still sort of like aiming to save the world, only a certain portion of it.

Final Fantasy IX was probably the next most 'mature' for the same reasons.

Government, LOLWUT?
It was more like defeat Vayne because he r nasty n I'm a spoilt little princess'.

It was more political yes, but it was not as mature as everyone makes out. It has a more serious tone but that's all. FFX has death, Auron is dead, and as good as dies at the end.Yuna is willing to sacrifice her own life to defeat sin, so that questions mortality and life.
In VI there's genocide when Kefka poisions everyone in Doma. We see Cyan's family die.
There is none of that in FFXII, it just has a more serious feeling to it, I don't think it's as mature as people say it is.

Yeah, Tactics has a more personal mature theme, I guess...lots of backstabbing & family death. Kind of intense sort of stuff not normally seen in the regular FF series...at least not in such abundance. Plus, there's also that politico Ivalice standard underlining everything, I guess...?

I think ff12 was the most mature but mainly becuase of the politics and the difference in the storyline compared to the other ff games. FF12 was based more around saving the land and restoring peace instead of saving the world like most ff games.

XII was a bit to in depth with the politics. When it comes to games, my brother and I have similar tastes, but he watched me when I started XII and never played it himself. XII lacked the comical character that I have seen in other games, like Rikku. When I first saw pictures of Vaan, Ashe and Penelo, I thought they'd be another Tidus, Yuna and Rikku, but no. They are so caught up in politics, they have no depth.

So XII is mature, but lacks the humour and Character of other FF's.
