The Importance of Side Quests

How important are sidequests to you when playing FF games/KH/other S-E games? Do they make or break the game for you, or do you just avoid them altogether?

As far as I'm concerned, I like in-depth sidequests in my games. Whenever I get to a boring or slow part in the story, it's nice to be able to do some extra fun things to get your interest back up before continuing on. This is especially true in FF7, so I went through Wutai and Fort Condor and all of that other stuff when I got bored with the story since I knew it so well from watching my friend playing it. If sidequests are quick and pointless, then it's just aggravating and I avoid them entirely.

I think they are VERY important, often sideuests are the only way to get the rare weapons and all the other best shizz

Also, I like to feel like Iv done everything and sidequests are important to completing the game 100%

I also really enjoy them for the most part

I never let them beat me no matter how high the bp gets, im a persistent foool

I don't think boredom has to do with me doing the sidequests in games. It's more about completing the game 100% or at least very damn close to that. Yes, taking a break from the storyline is also a factor, but that's only because I do enjoy doing extra stuff and seeing what the game has to offer overall.

And then of course, sometimes it's highly recommended that you do lots of sidequests in order to obtain various items and weapons that are extremely rare. That's a big achievement for me, and so doing sidequests is a "must" for me.

However, I admit that FFXII is the only game that I didn't bother with when it came to sidequests. >.> There was just way too many that I gave up in the midst of it. I may try again sometime though, but not anytime soon.

XII is the only one I didn't really bother with either, I did some of them but I couldn't really get into it. I also intend on getting round to it eventually, Id rather like to beat it 100% (or close To) I refuse to let it beat me

The sidequests in FF12 were really monotonous for me. The thing is though, that game RELIED on sidequests to make it, instead of a consistent driving storyline and lots of interaction. So people who like plenty of sidequests and alternative things to do, they loved FF12. People who like a more linear game like me found it dull and unexciting.

I hardly did any sidequests in any of the FFs except for FFX. FFX-2 was a giant sidequest on its own, imo.

-Ignores the FFXII hating-

Sidequests are good, especially if they lead you to something at the end of it. Which is what I got with XII. These hunts led me to awesome people with interesting backstories, rewards, and I never tired of them.
It's a shame though, that when I get so far in the game, I only decide to REALLY do lots of hunts. Some of the rewards at that time mean very little, so I sell some of the items I get 8D

So there's a lot, but at least they're fun to do - and personally, I don't think it affects the story in a bad way either.

Didn't get much fun out of VII's, didn't think VII had that many tbh. If it did, well, they can't have been that good otherwise I'd have remembered them!

IX's were pretty cool, as was VIII's. X - loved the Blitzball only. X-2 - uh yeah, no comment.

FFVI Advance has all the original extra stuff, plus an awesome Den I can't wait to beat.

Tried to take on Leviathan and Gilgamesh already, but I got seriously owned. 8D

-Leviathan, Gilgamesh, and Cactuar are new Espers that have been introduced in VI-

I completely agree with Reality Fantasy, though I couldn't subject myself to FFXII long enough to complete the majority of the sidequests.

When it comes to Final Fantasy, I usually pass 'em by. I'm more interested in the main plot. As great as it'd be to get that super awesome rare weapon, I never care enough about the reward to dedicate the time.

Odd...seeing as I love to do the sidequests on most of the other RPGs I play. Oh, well.

The first time I play through a game, I really only care about the story not "getting 100%". So I usually wait till the second time through to do them all.

With 12 though, that seems like it's not an option... :/ So annoying.

I like sidequests. When I first time play FF-game i only play it through without doing sidequests or maybe few sidequests. Then I have later reason to play it again because I want to play 100%. I also like doing extra stuff and I have always like sidequests in FF-games. I think FFX had weakest sidequests, not all are bad but bliztball and chocobo riding minigame totally sucks.

I didn't like Blitzball at first, but after you play a few games it gets ridiculously easy :/
