Final Fantasy: One of greatest RPG series of all time?
As I played many of the Final Fantasy games, I kept thinking to myself what made Final Fantasy so great that it has garnered so many fans? I had played a variety of RPGs in my day and some RPGs are even better than some of the FF games but I just wondering what separated this particular franchise from the RPGs series I played. I guess it brought something of a personal experience that you could never find in other games or will ever find in other games and I believe it has mostly to do with the art, story, characters, world, gameplay and most of the music (especially the music). I know everyone has there own opinion on what made the series so amazing in the first place and I just want to what attracted people to this particular franchise at all? What makes this franchise different from franchises like Phastasy Star or Dragon Quest?

Personal preference, largely.
The reason FF is my favourite series is because of the depth in character and plot. Other series have that too, but it never feels the same.

For me it would have to be the characters. They are for the most part well thought out, very deep and easy to identify with, enabling the game to draw you in on an emotional level. Where as in say Elder Scrolls IV, the character interactions are relatively stilted and can be somewhat contrived (though there are a few exceptions); so while the gameplay and storyline are very immersive you don't feel paticularly attached to any characters in the game, including your own. This is, for me at least, why FF is king and Elder Scrolls is number 2.

It was the first RPG I ever played so I guess it's party because Im familiar with it for me, although I have played BoF and Dragon Quest....both of which are VERY good, but I will always prefer Final Fantasy. And the music is better lol. I just seem to get more involved in the stories of FF than any other games...

Definitely the story. Few other series pull off stories as well as FF. Also, the gameplay is easy to grasp and is entertaining while providing enough challenge (superbosses and whatnot).

It's a much beloved series, of mine, mainly because it was the second RPG series I played! My first was Zelda and my third was Castlevania. Zelda and Final Fantasy are pretty much all I play and have played, my whole life. I've never really gotten into other series because those three, I mentioned above, take all of my time and interest. I realize I'm probably missing out on alot of fantastic RPGs and I try to get myself into new things, but I'm always drawn back to what is familiar to me. The characters, the music, the storylines of Final Fantasy draw me into the series again and again. I can never stray from it for very long. I'm hopelessly devoted, what can I say? Despite how I might fuss about certain things that have occurred in the FF universe, lately. I'll always come back to Final Fantasy.

I agree with everyone here. Characters, storyline, plot, music, game length, environment, etc. are all of the many factors that makes me say Final Fantasy is definitely the best RPG out there - for me anyway.
It's the first RPG that I've played as well, and from FFVII, I've followed the series ever since (and even went back to the earlier series). It's just simply amazing. After I finish a Final Fantasy game, I would anticipate the next game in the series, wondering for the longest time what SE will have in store for us next.

I would have to agree. When it comes to plot, characters and music, game play, and every thing else Final Fantasy is the best in rpg games. they have a way of getting me attached to the characters and for me FF7 is what started my liking of the FF series. I think I will have to eventually play every single FF game.
