I don't use status effects that often, though sleep was used much more often than poison.

The only status effect spells I use the most are the beneficial ones on my party (save for Beserk; I use that on enemeies).

I think sleep is a good spell if your against something stronger than you are (as long as they arent immune to sleep).
Put it to sleep then hit it with other strong magic, problem solved.

*well i dont think sleep status is useless at all but i dont use it mush myself,im a direct attack kinda guy so status effects are not a priority

*but there are some encounters that sleep can really aid you,for instance, killing a T-Rexaur in FFVIII,if every character is junctioned with sleep attack the Trexaur is unable to do less or no damage at all,and we all know that this motha is one bad ass dude! so it was a great help in leveling and collecting items from the monster

It can have it's uses. Not many, but some. have been known to use status effects myself when there are far too many enemies for me to take on all at once. But it is rare. I much prefer to take them on in a fight than be sneaky and put them to sleep.

Cool

it can sometimes make things too easy. Stop, sleep, all spells which disable the enemy make things easy, and might rob some people of the feeling of accomplishment, especially when fighting a boss.

In Final Fantasy XII, if you put an enemy to sleep he'll wake up immediately after you attack. Because of gambits you must attack, or turn it off. I usually run away before that happens.

As for other FFs, the effect is a lot better than confuse status.

I never use sleep myself but it's quite useful for those who like to use magic type characters. Put them to sleep and hack away with the magic. It's useful in some ways.

In XII you would have to turn off the gambits and then use your magic or put all your gambits to magic attacks. =/.

Sleep magic and other status magics are usually only helpful when you know for certain that it will affect the enemy... So yes, it is completely worthless.

As i read this topic, i suddenly thought of Pokemon...!
Well, kinda useful when you need to restore health, isn't it? While ole' boss' in dreamland, we could always spam what we need; Ether, whatever.
Occassionally that is... Only if it worked...
