I actually remember completing a game where I renamed Yuffie, I named her after me because her mischevious character just reminded me of myself. It's like the one and only time Iv done it tho, and if I wasn't as far into the game as I was I would have probably restared as I said above, Name changing makes me twitchy

Renaming characters can be fun, yes. But I tend to leave it alone because I usually love their names anyway as they are quite unique. Back when I first played VII, I did rename them, but the second time I played, I left the characters as is.
I suppose it just depends whether I like their names. For FFIII DS, I renamed three of the characters but left Arc alone.
