Do you miss Nobuo Uematsu?
FFX was the last game to have the full score composed by Nobuo Uematsu. I don't know about you guys, but I think FFX-2 had very poor music, and you could really tell Uematsu wasn't involved. Perhaps it would be wrong to take FFX-2 seriously though, because it wasn't intended to have the same kind of impact a 'normal' FF, it was a lot more light hearted.
FFXII is a funny one in my opinion. Although the soundtrack was a lot better than FFX-2, I still felt it was lacking something.
Opinions, anyone?

I think there was a definite something lacking from FFXII (although it was still good), mainly because it was more just classical type pieces where in all the other titles there has been more a rock classical type element. So in that aspect I do miss him.
But at the same time SE need to experiment with other composers to see what they can come up with, and 'Somnus' from FFvXIII sounds great so if the tracks are just as good it will be an epic soundtrack.

He's done a new game recently, if you're interested. Actually, all the original creators of FF were involved. It's called Lost Odyssey and it's out for the 360 at least, I know.

Nobuo Uematsu's music in FF was half the reason I played the games in the first place.
The character themes he created and other themes that were made to match the supposed mood in the story were well match and conveyed the atmosphere in each scene and such.

I am saddened that Nobuo Uematsu has not played an active role since Final Fantasy XI. Notably, he composed the main theme of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Maybe one day he will make an official return with Final Fantasy XVI, as well as having an active role in Super Smash Bros. 4 (if there is going to be one) .

I don't mind that he's left - expectedly, some of his pieces are better than the rest and there's even the odd stinker there. I wouldn't have suspected a different composer if I didn't hear that he moved on. XII was really good and, scrolling down my list, I have more XII songs there than any other single game.

I didn't like the soundtrack to XII all that much tbh, there was nothing memeorable about it. I didn't actually know that he didnt have anything/much to do with it, but Iguess that's probably why none of the music has stuck with me like in previous games

Like Riku, I wouldn't have known Uematsu had left SE if someone hadn't told me, although I liked the music in XII, their wasn't really any pieces of music that just made me go...wow. Apart from the amazing Kiss Me Goodbye of course, but I didn't think the quality of the music had decreased, their just wasn't any significantly important peices of music.

I already mentioned this in a thread in the music section- the main thing missing from music by other composers is character themes. That's what Nobuo Uematsu is good at, as well as epic main themes. I admit I do miss his contribution very much....
However, I think it's only right that other composers are given a chance. If SE is going to keep the FF franchise going, they have to introduce fresh talent. Composers like Sakimoto (FFXII) are just getting started imo, I think there will be better to come. FFXII, though perhaps lacking in originality, wasn't all that bad, and Tactics (by the same composer) has a pretty great score. These new people just need time, and to learn through experience what makes a good score.
I like how Uematsu's presence can still be felt, with the songs he has provided here and there (yeah I love Kiss Me Goodbye too), and I think it's great when the newer composers pay their respects to him by using some of his themes in their own work, as a nod to the master so to speak. I also like the fact that Uematsu himself is trying new things, going outside the FF world and expanding his own repertoire. Give it a chance guys, there will be some great music from them all eventually

Yeah, to be honest, I don't dislike any the current composer(s). In fact, if I didn't know any better, I'm not sure I would be able to say "Ooh, Uematsu isn't composing".
