Almost Every Single Plot in the FF Series is Related...
In every FF game I played, the plot usually comes in with taking over the world or destroying it.
There's a certain relationship between almost half or more of each plot.
They mention "puppets".
Now it goes on with philosophy things.
Like Spehiroth says, "You're just a puppet, a failed experiment of Hojo," or something.
And as Kuja and Garland say something, I can't remember.
Well, we can discuss why it's like this.
Soooo....
Discuss.

almost every plot in everything is good vs guy who wants to take over the world/ destroy it.
but their reasons for doing it are what differentiates them.
take FFVIII for example, ultamecia wants to kill everybody, for no reason
whereas in X and XII, seymour and vayne think they are being altruistic, in a twisted kind of way

Maybe that's one of the reasons why i like about FFXII.
It's more than about a war, revenge and recover a country than save the world of been destroyed (again) for some evil guy/girl/spirit/etc.

*hmmm i have thought about it but never discussed it with anyone
*another similar plot since final fantasy 1 is the time traveling foes or a world conquering plot using time
*well i guess the same writer didnt have many ideas, just twist and tweak a bit and itl be just like brand new
*still i cant seem to get tired of the final fantasy plots its not a big problem if the series has interrelated plots, lets just enjoy the game

Main reason why I liked XII so much - it was NOT a generic run of the mill storyline, it was something different.

Insult XII infront of Rulia, and prepare to be castrated, especially if you Insult Ghis.

XII was good for that, since it was a war, and more political. They just decided to put in 50 hours worth of side-quests, as opposed to adding more to the storyline. FFXII just seemed to suddenly...end.
But, yeah...with Final Fantasy, you're heroes, and you're fighting things. If you're not fighting to save the world or win the war, then why the hell would you be fighting?
It's a pretty necessary thing.
But, I have one argument against this. Final Fantasy is similar from game to game, and that's a good thing.
Because here is the one skeleton in the closet that everyone hates when mentioned.
What happens when Square tries something out of the box and not so related to the rest of the series?
You get Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.
I rest my case.

And... that's a bad thing, right? O.o

Personally, I'm with Ruulia on this one. XII is made completely unique because of it's complex storylines, and backstories, and that's what makes it so amazing.

Lol, yes. Yes it is.
There are VERY few FF fans that liked that movie. Which is why it's never brought up, and when it is, it usually brings out a cringe and a grimace. That movie was like a toned down Alien. It could have been so much better if it had, ya know...swords, summons, anything.....FANTASY related.

I completely second that view. They pulled off sci-fi in VII and VIII because there was still that magic and mystery element there that kept them tied to the main series. Of course the love stories and triangles helped too. But I think the only thing that told me The Spirits Within was FF related was the tiny pic of a chocobo on the main character's t-shirt, and even then I only discovered that very recently ¬_¬
But magic is one of the things that links all of the games together for me. Whether you put a sci-fi spin on it, or have it as an omnipresent mystical power, it runs through the veins of the series. Summoning is magical, materia is magical, even life and death are perceived as magical. Where was all that in Spirits Within? Grrrr....
