We'll talk about Aishite Imasu 1941...(Mahal Kita)...(I Love You.) This Tagalog movie's inspiring - in fact, one of the best in a very long time. I feel like writing something about it and so I shall. Well, I won't bother giving a synopsis of the movie, but the story and characters were so riveting that I almost cried during a sad part.
Anyway, my point is that it made me think back about the days when the Japanese were trying to take over the Philippines during World War II. People were in reckless situations, and I cannot fully fathom how they were able to withstand every single moment of it. People took sides...so many became traitors...and some Filipinos even conspired against each other due to the whole chaos and confusion.
It then made me think about my great-grandfather on my father's side who was killed by the Japanese during that time. I wonder what he was like...I wonder how my grandfather (a kid back then) viewed the whole thing. I wish I could have asked questions about his father when he was still living, as I am interested in my family history. In fact, sad to say...but I have no inkling, whatsoever about my family back story...mom or dad's side.
Someday I'll know though. I'll make sure of it.

I've never heard of that movie, but that's because I never pay attention to movies in general anyway. =(
Most Filipinos sided with themselves. :p
In other words they formed big guerilla movements, though many did co-operate with the Japanese in fear of torture. Have you guys heard of the Death March, where thousands of Americans and Filipinos died? It was one of the most horrible moments during the war for the fighters and to think that we were just standing up for ourselves and the Japanese thought that we were worthless anyway.
Either way, you can't blame the Japanese for it. It was the higher-ups who directed everything anyway and the soldier was blinded by the concept of honor for the emperor and that he must sacrifice himself for the sake of the nation and for his own sake. =(
Unfortunately that resulted in massive losses.
