I think Amano's character designs are good, but I really dont see it working in real time graphics like Okami did. I think the process should be like this:

Amano creates characters
Nomura revises the designs so they can be practical for in game use
Some guy renders them for in game use
Amano screens them to make sure they arent too far off his inital design.

This may be completely shallow, but I'll be buying a PS3 when this game comes out.. gasp,shock, horror, because it's a Final Fantasy game.
Why? Because I can expect that it will be good. I've yet to play a Final Fantasy game that was bad. So the designs look akin to previous games(in this case, VII). Big friggen deal. Doesn't mean it's going to suck..

I saw you all bitching and moaning about Versus, not XIII or the characters in it either. I haven't seen yet any complaints about the actual FFXIII being a big FFVII rip-off but Versus, which IMO both of which are beyond ludicrous considering Versus is a Fantasy based on Reality, and unless you've seen the trailer for them I wouldn't go around tossing insinuations about them either. Hence the Versus complaints I put it in the Versus sub-forum.

I actually agree with Lillyane, I have high hopes for both games and after getting my Cloud book with the special trailers and watching them, I'm amazed by what we're going to be getting. These games look especially awesome and I'm dying for storyline of Versus. People shouldn't be so quick to judge a book by it's cover just because a character might look similar to one from another FF, good Lord people. Give it a chance before you start bashing it. You haven't even fucking played it yet. I get so sick of seeing people being so judgemental before they've even had a chance to play the game.

I never said that the game was going to be bad.
I never said that the storyline would suck.
I never said I wouldn't be buying a PS3 just to play the games, because I will be.
I never said that the gameplay was going to be bad, or the soundtrack, or ANYTHING that wasn't related to the -designs- and that's it.

I'm a visually-oriented person. The first thing I pick up on is graphics, and one of the most attractive things about the Final Fantasy series, is the graphics. It's obvious that Square has the ability to create -extremely- beautiful and unique renders, yet, FF after FF, it's the same recycled thing.

So, again, for clarification.
I'm talking about similarities and unoriginality in DESIGN. And ONLY that. I'm sure the games will be great, I'll buy them, I'll play them. I just find it astounding how similar some of the characters look. And if that amounts to needless judgemental bitching, then I'm sorry for posting my opinion.

I know this isnt really my business but isnt that going a little over the top? I mean she was making a simple point about how both games draw major influence in character design from FF7 also she DID mention Lightning (who is in FF13) therefore I agree with her point about it being in the FF13 General Forum.

Anyway I think Lightning will be better than Cloud (as a protagonist) since I doubt she has any of Cloud's emo tendencies also with her having a cooler weapon design than Cloud's Buster sword it could invoke some interesting gameplay ideas.

To be fair LA if you read it he did say in the OP that he was talking about FFXIII and Versus, just because the images he used were all from Versus doesn't change that.

Also I don't really see that these will be a ripoff of VII as such but with the same designer working on it you're bound to see elements which are similar. Until you play the thing for yourself you won't see what the differences but at first glance looking at the screenshots released I see where the VII comparisions come from. It was the very thing I thought myself when I first saw them.

And, the title may have been a bit over-the-top, but I made the thread after being shocked with the new designs that were released. I just kept thinking, "If they're going to use designs that hauntingly similar, why not just remake FF7 first and stop teasing the fanbase?"

Well my apologies, considering the complaining is about people's clothing designs from Versus looking similar to FFVII, I figured this was the appropriate place. If it's such a huge fucking deal, I'll move it back.

Wow, that girl does looks scarily like Tifa, and that man looks too much like Cloud =/

Hopefully, they won't really look too much like them in the final game, or be small parts. At least the main character is unique.
