I have swords and shields with penelo, balthier and fran. Vaan has the excalibur, basch a golden axe and a shield and ashe the dragon whisper. I know that some characters with a certain kind of weapon can be more effective, but i don't know which one i should use. One thing though that i find annoying is the fact that axes/hammers can deal wether massive damage or some scratches to the fiends...is it because of that thing that i mentioned before?

personally i would give basch the excalibur since he's a knight and an excalibur is associated with knights. But thats just me.

This was my weapon choice through most of the game.
Vaan - Sword & Shield
Penelo - Rod/Staff
Ashe - Rod/Staff
Basch - Spears
Balthier - Guns
Fran - Bows
Most of it stayed the same but I gave Basch a Great Sword near the end.
