| Final Fantasy XII Presumably the last "main" game to be released on the PS2, FF12 broke the tradition of Battle Screens. It was also the sixth game ever to receive a perfect 40/40 score from the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. |

Oh
I just noticed in the description for this sub-forum that FFXII got a perfect score from Famitsu magazine. And yet reading most people's posts about this game (which is mostly negative), it doesn't even seem likely that this game would get over a ten. xD
So then...why a perfect score?
Is it just that much more appealing in that side of the world than this one?
Talk to meh. :p

No, but I was aware of the score before it's US release. I expected quite a bit from this title. It wasn't nearly as big of a letdown as people let on... but I probably would not have given it a perfect score.
I think for a lot of casual gamers the elimination of the random battles and love story were a very big plus to this title.

Pfft, i've seen this game get a perfect score in EVERY American review in every mag or website. I dont know why, this game has alot of flaws, i think everyone was just screaming "NO R4ND0M ENC0UNT3RS 10TEN10 OMGZ!!!"
I'd give the game an 8/10.

The random encounter was getting a bit repetitive in FF games so i think the change is good. People were expecting too much from this game because of the 4 or so years of waiting in it's development.

Yeah, I agree expectations were too high. But Imagine if there had never been another FF game and XII was the first one. If you think of it like that then I would not have been surprised that it got a perfect score.

When I first bought the game it said on a sticker on the box that it was the second Final Fantasy game to reach a perfect score. So what was the first one to reach a perfect score?

No, not really. Final Fantasy is MADE by these following factors:
1) The world - graphical environment, different places, backhistory.
2) Recurring themes - Cid characters, monsters, weapons, magic.
3) Fresh battle system - whether it be dresspheres, sphere grids, license grid.
4) Characters - personalities vary from the classic angst ridden hero to the hyper girl party member.
5) Story - It has to be an epic, whether it be war based or saving the world based.
THATS what makes a Final Fantasy
Random battles? After 10+ plus games, don't you think that sort of thing is tiring and repetitive?

It's not repetitive if the gameplay is fresh, which is one of the factors of an FF game.
