Final Fantasy XIIPresumably the last "main" game to be released on the PS2, FF12 broke the tradition of Battle Screens. It was also the sixth game ever to receive a perfect 40/40 score from the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu.

I was actually more disappointed in the scale and difficulty for some particular monsters. Most notably the Malboros. They were always big and intimidating and you never wanted to be on the recieving end of Bad Breath but in FFXII, they were pretty small and Bad Breath didn't have that much of an effect. I had no problems with them unlike previous titles it was a battle you didn't want to face when unprepared.

Agreed with Zidane (I'll call you by your previous username, if you don't mind, 'George' ). I was disappointed by the monster variety and especially disappointed of the Marlboros. They were tiny and weren't even that intimidating.
Most of the 'Saurians' and the 'dragons' just have different add-ons to them that make them seem different but their battle actions are notably the same and therefore boring to watch in the long-run. Some monsters like the bats and redmaws look exactly the same because they are so tiny. You couldn't even tell the skeleton fiends apart except for those things that hung around their necks.
In short, too many places, so little monster diversity.

Also agree with...i'll just call you Zidane too xD
Malboros were pathetic in this game, they're tiny, unintimidating (for christ's sake, the King Malboros have giant mustaches), and not only is their Bad Breath weak, but it MISSES half the time or more.
And monster design does get old. True, the whole "change the color" scheme has been around for a long time, but this game takes it to a new level. Wolves, birds, undead, bats, giant owls, slavens, coeurls, etc....i think the only species with any real variation was the Wyrm, since that had three very different subspecies to it.

Yeah, but the overall design to the Wyrm was just repeated like crazy. Same face, some with that neck ring thing, and others just weird looking like those ones on the Paramina Rift.
Needless to say, at least the bosses didn't get affected by it.
But otherwise, I appreciate the monster design, they just probably couldn't be forced to create more monster designs as they had a lot to animate already. xD

Well, if you compare this to FFX, FFXII has more levels and boards and more vast areas.
In FFX you had only a set amount of places and each one had a different set of monsters. XII was probably more diffulcult to do since the battle system was different and the areas were 10x as bigger.
