| Final Fantasy XII Presumably the last "main" game to be released on the PS2, FF12 broke the tradition of Battle Screens. It was also the sixth game ever to receive a perfect 40/40 score from the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. |

Low Point...
I am a massive fan of the Final Fantasy series (obviously) and have bought each one from FFVII onwards.
However, the last of my purchases was FFXII. The supposed best in the series. Now, while I can appreciate the thought gone into the game and the execution; I just cannot get to grips with it.
I know, I know, change can and should be good and refreshing. Up until now, I have also been a firm believer in this:
FFVIII: Junction System, Triple triad = Great
FFIX: 4 person party, Weapon/ability system = Great
FFX: Ability to switch party mid-battle, Ability sphears = Great
FFXII: Battle system = BIG no no!
I just think that out of everything to be changed in the FF series, the battle system should not be tampered with. Not to such an extent anyway. Don't get me wrong, maybe it was time for a slight change, but at least ease us into it!
Frankly, I believe a lot of FF fans were scared of this massive change and were put off from the get go. Me being one of them.
Baffled is a word to describe my feelings, for the success of this game is baffling! Obviously it is not going to be possible for me to list all of the good points and reasons why to like it, because I for one didn't like it.
The actual low point, personally for me, was when I traded FFXII in the other day...My first FF game EVER to be traded in I hope people don't have to share that feeling because it's surprisingly sad...
Please feel free to discuss and share your views, but don't forget, I'm not slating the game entirely, just saying it's not for everyone ^^.

As far as I know FFXI wasn't really as popular as FFXII due to the online only feature. So I'm just going by what myself and I'm assuming many other people experienced. I for one didn't get the chance to try FFXI before FFXII.

FFXI is much more popular than FFXII, its out for Xbox360, PS2 and PC and has one of the biggest on-line communities.

Ok point made! I'm not trying to get drawn into a factual arguement, just getting my feelings across and seeing if other people agree. Clearly you don't.

You're preaching to the choir; the battle system of FF is something that should never be touched, or at least not for the main titles. With the spin-offs, I'm not so bothered. The ATB was a brilliant system, and has always been successful, so I can't for the life of me think why FFXII warranted a change in it.
At least XIII is going back to it.

I do prefer the old fighting systems, I was just stating some facts.

I might also point out that FFXI isn't out on PS2.

I actually didn't mind the battle system at all. The gambits could be glitchy on occasion but it wasn't too big a deal. That's not to say I didn't like ATB. I can see how see how others would be put off by the new system though. I agree its probably not for everybody.
