| Final Fantasy XII Presumably the last "main" game to be released on the PS2, FF12 broke the tradition of Battle Screens. It was also the sixth game ever to receive a perfect 40/40 score from the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. |

I loved the battle system.
The old FF's had unrealistic, flawed, slow battle systems. While they were fun, the FFXII battle system was a much better system IMO, that they should've thought of earlier. You can chain exp quickly, and dont have to run around hoping for a battle. You can use the environment to your advantage rather than standing idle while the enemy does their attack, and all 3 players can be attacking at once, rather than taking turns.
Once you start doing the mega boss hunts you will start to like it, as they are much more enjoyable in this battle system rather than the older ones.

The old battle systems were getting boring. FF needed something new. FFX was successful and so was 12. Both of which had a change in battle systems.

La la la, just walking around the world map, not a care in the world *bam* monsters attack. A little more walking *bam* another monster battle. This is getting fun...
Yes, I can see how older FF battle systems are superior to XII.

I Believe This Game Is The Best In The Series At The Moment. The Game in my opinions has no flaws and is great in all aspects of characters, storyline, sound and graphics.
I Love The Gambit systems because i dun have to worry about healing hp and status ailments as the gambit systems allows automatic controlling on Fran and Penelo (who are my healers) do their job without my worries.
Also I Love How The Characters arent restricted to one sorta weapon and can change to any weapon like guns, swords, bows in the midst of a battle whch is kool.
Another great thing is if your party of 3 characters gets KO'd in battle, its not game over, they allow you to remove the dead and input ya other 3 characters, which in other games it was game over even if you had 3 0r 4 characters sill alive! Top Game definately 9.5 or 10 out of 10 from me.

Yes. The ability to cancel moves is great and it really comes in handy in harder battles (Ultima, for example). I used to hate putting in the wrong command and then having to wait a whole turn to rectify it.

I actually thought fleeing was much easier in this game since you could do it immediately. Sure you'd have to run a bit of a distance to get the enemies to stop chasing you but in the old battle systems, it could take forever for them to flee the battle. A lot of times I'd just give up trying to flee and just finish the battle.

Concur.
I've also noticed that a lot of people complain about the gambit system giving them less control over battles and whatnot but I don't find that to be necessarily true. It's really all about the setup. And in boss fights, high rank mark hunts and esper battles, I had to change strategies during battle a lot so I was pretty much controlling all of my characters. I only really had gambits for healing and such.

sure i prefer the turn-based system but i played through this twice and i started to adapt to the new battle, and its really not as bad as i once thought. the most annoying thing is when gambits dont wory, and no matter how far you run away from a monster, if it has you targeted and it swings its melee weapon, it hits you. but give it some time, im sure you'll eventually like it.

It seems like a lot of people have had problems with faulty gambits or mobs still able to hit when you run - yet I had none of this when I played. I use a hell of a lot of Gambits and they always work, and if I run monsters chase but delay their attack until they reach me, or pause it if I get a swing in first.
Perhaps there have been tweaks and adjustments between the JP/US versions and the PAL/International versions?

i dont hate it, but i do hope they don't forget about the good old fashioned final fantasy style of battle either. I dont want to see all this real time battling all the time either

We have had real time battle system for ONE game. Maybe the creators should have thought about how irritating random battles got after so long...maybe they should have realised not everyone enjoyed seeing them time and time again. There isn't really a Final Fantasy battle system anyway. I've seen similar random battles in Magical Starsign for one..

I can't say I hate it. I just didn't play enough time of FFXII to say i liked it or not. It felt different for sure, it was not bad for sure. Why did I stopped playing? I got kind of bored. I will certainly pick up FFXII where I left it, but only after finishing FFIX. Actually I think I will start over from the beginning cuz i forgot the whole point of the story.
