| Final Fantasy XII Presumably the last "main" game to be released on the PS2, FF12 broke the tradition of Battle Screens. It was also the sixth game ever to receive a perfect 40/40 score from the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. |

Hell Wyrm and Co.
Note: I'm not asking for help with Hell Wyrm or any other enemy for that matter.
I just beat Hell Wyrm after randomly deciding to take it on; considering the previous longest battle I had was Fafnir at somewhere around 1,000,000+ HP, it goes without saying this was quite a lengthy battle by my standards. It took me about two hours; I did it in four parts of about twenty minutes each, with a break in-between.
I'm curious, do you enjoy battles like this? I found myself thinking "Christ, just die" at several points during the fight; I must admit, his massive HP bar is very daunting, especially when you've been laying into him for ages and he's only lost three or four bars.
On the other hand, I enjoyed the fight because it was long. I found that anything I face lately (around level 70 currently) doesn't last very long against my team. It was a pleasant change fighting something that could easily withstand my tank (Level 70 Basch with STQ, Maximillian, Magepower Shishak, Sage's Ring, Bravery, Berserk and Haste = 9000+ per hit with 6+ combos pretty often) and could come pretty close to wiping me out if I wasn't careful (Invert + Immediate No CT 'Aga spell = Bad).
What are your thoughts on the addition of monsters with outrageous HP? I've yet to fight Yiazmat so that should be fun. >_>

If you want to make it shorter, you have to think of a decent gambit setup and select your equipment carefully. You could beat hell wyrm in under 20 mins if you have the correct strategy.
Yiazmat can be done in under 50 mins.

I dunno, I think beating Yiazmat that quickly would ruin the fun. Like I said, the length of the battle adds to the experience; it gives it a sort of "epic battle" feel to it, I think.

Long battles can help prolong the tension and of course make the victory seem all the sweeter. Yet, I think there's a point where the length of a battle just pushes into absurdity; battles such as the optional super-bosses in FF games just don't interest me. But then again, I'm not really a gamer, I just play for the story.

Hell Wyrm was good fun I thought, It took me about an hour and a half, and I just sorta thought I'd try it out, not knowing how much health the guy had! I did it in one sitting, because it didn't feel like that long when Vaan was hitting for 9999. I've never quite played a long boss like that before, it was entertaining, and great sense of achievment when he finally bit the dust.
Bring on Omega and Yiazmat!

I don't like long boring battles like Yiazmat. He uses the same attacks over and over until he has critical health.

I dont mind lengthy battles but it all depends on if im getting owned or not. If i got control of the battle then I dont mind fighting for lengths of time. Matter of fact i love them. But if im on the edge the whole time and im about to die then i think "Please hurry up in win before i die!!"

Long battles are ok as long as there is enough diversity in them.
if the attack patterns changes and there is enough to keep me intrested, and bussy trying to adjust my tactics in the fight then they are both challenging and fun.

I liked the long battles in XII. Hell Wyrm I found to be a lot easier than Yazmat. I think I took Wyrm out in an hour or less, Basch had the Genji gloves plus Murasame, combos galore there.
Yazmat was a freaking pain during the last 10 million or so. The last 2 million of it's life was pretty much taken out by a beserked basch with Genji gloves a long with the Murasame.
I absolutely hated Yazmat's deathstrike though. I often found myself with 1 character left casting arise, or using Phoenix Downs to bring back a character only to see my reviver go down from a deathstrike, and continue the cycle from there before I gave up and ran for the zone.

Yiazmat took me 1 and a half hours to kill when all my characters had Yagyu Darkblades, by the way, equip a Shell Shield as soon as you see him/her/it use DeathStrike, chances are it'll miss.
