| Final Fantasy XII Presumably the last "main" game to be released on the PS2, FF12 broke the tradition of Battle Screens. It was also the sixth game ever to receive a perfect 40/40 score from the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. |

FFXII: Magick Lag
There is a major flaw in FFXII, and I'm sure you've all noticed. You cant cast more than one powerful magick at the same time. Flare, Scathe, Scorge, Graviga, Curaja, Renew, Arise, all one thing in common.
If you're trying to do two at once, TOO BAD! So lets say Fran decided to cast Ardor on a fire-weak fiend, right? OWNAGE! Ut-oh, Basch gets hurt bad and is about to die, so Ashe tried to cast Curaja. Does that work? NOPE!! Basch dies, while Fran is having fun casting her all-mighty magicks. Then Ashe is just standing there with a full bar, casting Curaja that wont matter because the one person who needed it is KO'd and so while she COULD be reviving Basch shes curing nobody. UHHHHGGG~~!!! Very pretty magicks, amazing graphics, but perhaps a little over-the-top for a PS2? I'm sure they noticed the flaw. Good think shock (can you imagine getting hit with this one? I hate getting shocked even though its me being the stupid one, plugging something in with wet hands. I freak out for the next 5 minutes cuz I just got electrocuted then I dont even DARE try to plug whatever it was in again.) is able to go 2 or mabey even 3 at a time. This can add up to about 20k damage, more than the others hence you can only hit 9999 (when are they going to let you hit over that, again?). So I really only use the last ones for show. Scathe is halarious. The other ones stay in one place even if the fiend moves, but scathe followes! haha oh yeah, it knows where you live, in youre face!
AHEM so anyway, hopefully FFXIII will not be like this.
OMG I'm so lazy!! I am complaining about waiting for my video games while 16-year-olds in Africa are starving and working for 10 cents a day. hahahaha we are so spoiled.

I've noticed this very same problem; something to do with the queue being overloaded. I have only these words to impart my own experience.
ZODIARK IS A %&#@!!!!!
That is all. I could have won. But NOOOOOO!!!! The stupid chars have to stand there, time bar full up, while the esper of the year restores that stupid magic paling.
Ass. <.<

....Complaining about the time bar huh? Same thing applies for all other games. You wait for yourself to do a turn, it takes time, and your enemy could attack you while you're waiting. Unless, I'm missing something here. Which could possibly be the case..

Indeed. We are talking about the queue being overloaded. Our chars stand there with their thumbs up their ass while they get raped by infamous creature on screen.
This should not have been put into the game. When you're casting a spell and the time bar is full, you should cast the friggin spell, not stand there like a retard.

I have noticed this but only other game I've seen that the ATB gauge does not wait is in FFX-2 where you can have "Chain" effects (Which was a great addition and should be brought back).
It's quite annoying when you are trying to cast multiple spells though.

I now what your talking about it's bloody anoying but the enermies are effected as well by it.
I think that the more powerful spells use up to much mist to cast so multible can't be cast in the same area at the same time, this would explain the problem.

The magick lag can work to your advantage as well. If you're casting say Flare or Holy on an enemy, and neither of your other characters are hurt they can get lots of attacks in before the casting time is finished and the enemy has a chance to respond.

I am so surprised I never noticed this thread. Thanks for the revival guise, I love bitching about this game
This made me piss-angry. I don't think the PS2 was capable of handling two spells at once so they decided to be faggots and make a que instead of just, oh I dunno, toning down the effects? I got screwed over so many times trying to heal someone while someone else was casting Scathe or something. And the times it wasn't screwing me over in battle it was just plain annoying.

Uh, no. The PS2 just couldn't handle it.

How exactly is that an advantage? Enemies will attack you at the same time you're attacking them, it's not like an action game where hitting them can actually knock them back or stun them (yes, I know critical hits can do that, but they're not the norm). Besides, you could just cast and shoot with bows/guns from a distance before the enemy has time to run up to you.

Don't forget enemy actions have their own queue as well, especially if they're using spells with long casting times. Try it on something like the Behemoth King, you'll see if you drop a Holy on him while he's charging Ardour, his action is held in the queue while your Holy does the long animation, giving your other characters chance to either recover or attack.

The magic lagging was annoying I must admit but then again if they did all cast all at once the data that needs to be loaded could possibly overload the game and crash (like some other games I know)
But either way it is extremely annoying
