Do You Count FFXI as one of the Main Series?
Yeah once again the title sums it up, do you or do you not consider FFXI as part of the main Series, for example could you say "Ive played all the final fantasies" If you havnt Played XI?
i dont count XI as one of the main series because - its not a proper final fantasy game - you play online, you have to pay per month - you can never complete it and it doesnt really have a main "goal" or an amazing storyline for you to follow...
so would you label FFXI as one of the final fantasies or do you exclude it and "not count it"

No i dont count it as one of the same series, for a start its on a differnet console so no i dont think of it as a main game just like i dont considere ff tactics as a main game

Well, it does have a number value, so technically is one of the series. I just wish they called it Final Fantasy Online instead of XI. And it really isn't that great of an online game. So much for a new company.

They made it for PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox 360.
Yes, I do count it as one of the main series. Why wouldn't you? It is identical to the offline games in nearly every aspect except for the fact that it is online. I don't see the bad part to paying monthly to play. What people fail to understand is that if people only bought the game and never had to pay anything further, you'd never get any good support, the developers wouldn't release any new worthwhile material, and your overall experience would just be a lot more dull. Paying per month to keep the game upbeat is worth it.
Why else would you guys say it's not main-series worthy? Rather than just one main goal, you have a few. For instance, the main goal of the original Final Fantasy XI game was to defeat the Shadowlord within your missions. When they released the expansion, your new goal was to defeat the Zilart. For Chains of Promathia they gave you Promathia to defeat. Now that Treasures of Aht Urhgan is out, we have another boss to defeat. They may have a different feel, but the idea is identical.
As with every Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy XI has side quests to keep you busy as well. Tired of doing the same old thing? Go help some people in the cities that will also make you gil and items. As it is in every Final Fantasy, you are required to level up in order to advance in the game. It is just prolonged in Final Fantasy XI because the point is to play for a long period of time.
The monsters, the summons, the spells, etc. are all identical to every single Final Fantasy before it. I have no idea why people shun this game. The only people who do not like this game are those who do not have patience, don't have a lot of free time, don't have access to a credit card, or people who just refuse to give online games a try.
Yes, I do think this to be a big part of the series.

I count FF11 as one of the main series because it auctally had a storyline that you could follow. many don't follow it, tho.

Hmmm...my boyfriend just came out of the blue and told me he would buy this game for me, so I guess I'll pass better judgement once I've played it a few times. =x
But still...I agree with Rydia, they should have gave it a more legit name like FF Online.

No i dont count it as one of the main series. I really didn't like FFXI, was pretty boring and it didn't really contribute anything like previous FF installments.

No, I don't consider it a part of the series at all. Tactics has more of a right to be part of the "main" games than Final Fantasy XI does. The main reason is that the game was not designed for Final Fantasy fans. It was designed for online gamers. It doesn't matter if it has a good plot or character development or anything else | | | |
