Yeah, they do help the game to become easier, especially with bosses and such but I suppose they are not a necessity. I wasn't bothered to go through the game and collect all the Aeons because I didn't see a point for it! Besides, it was better that way anyway because all you had to do was kill them in the end, I didn't like doing that at all. The more Aeons you get, the more you had to kill at the end. Poor things!
