Auron, always hit 9999 last time I played. Auron is truly the best tank in the game. I got his ultimate weapon, Masamune, but not both items to add on to it.

I'm almost equal in most of my characters except Lulu and Riku who are still fairly under-leveled compared to the other 5 in my party. Taking the characters through the Monster Arena really leveled them up big time as they moved around the Sphere Grid with ease.
I'd ahve to say though that if I took a party of 3 into battle (say Nemesis) I would choose Tidus, Wakka, and Yuna, which is exactly the 3 I used to defeat 99% of the Monster Arena bosses.

Most definately Lulu. I used her a TON of the time, and she was very versatile. Her magics were good against several things.

I think it's hard to decide between Tidus/Yuna/Lulu for me. Even though Rikku is destructive, she wasn't good enough in battle to be considered the 'strongest'. I think I'll go with Lulu, because in all five times that I beat the game, I never took her out of my party unless I was forced to. Her black magic was crucial.
Yuna was good for her summons though, and if you built Tidus correctly, he could be devastasting. Lulu was just badass, imo.

Problem with Lulu is if your using her magic and shizz, all these dark Aeons tend to bloody absorb it 
I still stand by Wakka being the hardest ever, I beat Dark Bahamut & Anima with him and had Yuna constantly healing and summoning the aeons as sheilds against their overdrives
They make the most lethal team ever  Auron needs ribbon on his armour badly

If you have Rikku on your team, the Dark Aeons would be a hell of a lot easier than without her. Rikku's Mix overdrive is possibly the most useful one in the game.
