I did. I generally love history. Virtual worlds are no exception. The man had many words of wisdom.
Definitely a break from Tidus' whiny crap.

Why would he be too fast? Like, maybe he has an airship, or he has money to let him be flown everywhere, maybe he is actually dead, maybe he rides chocobo's. and btw your party has a lot of hold-ups

Only listened to Maechen back in Mt. Gagazet where he told me about the hymn of the fayth and the war with Zanarkand and Bevelle.
Didn't listen to him in other places

I loved listening to Maechen, he was so full of wisdom. It was nice to know what really happened too. The reason for his super duper fast transpo is that he is actually a ghost, as seen in X-2

i didn't really listen to him but i started the conversations, i did like do something else whilst he was talking though. when i first saw him he looked important so i spoke to him and then made myself a cuppa tea, the tradition stuck (whilst he is talking its a good tea break)

I actually did listen to him a few times when I got bored and stuff. haha. He actually had some good stuff to mention about Spira if you took the time to really listen.

Well, since it's been so long since I've played FFX and forgotten quite a bit of stuff in the storyline, I've been going back through and talking to Maechen every possible chance I get to refresh my memory on Spira and it's history. I actually love listening to the man speak because he has such a calm and gentle voice and the accent is nice as well. I really felt Maechen benefited the game a lot. I say those who haven't played FFX, every chance you get speak to Maechen because he will explain and uncover quite a bit for you as you go through it. He's a really awesome NPC, and I'm making sure this playthrough I go and speak to him every opportunity I get. He's a very informative man.

Well, Maechen was always there so might as well listen to him.
But I really did enjoy listening to his stories. The way his voice sounded added a dramatic effect to it too.
I was intrigued by my last encounter with him, which was on Mt. Gagazet, about Yu Yevon and Yunalesca having planned the whole fiasco all along. It still confuses me exactly why they did. (since there was no mention of why they wanted to put Spira into chaos that I know of. Correct me if I'm wrong.)
Hmm... Maybe tyrants trying to be overlords?

Yeah as some ppl have said I actually listened to Maechen when he was around. And I found his stories quite interesting in a weird way. Althought they bored me to death when he would talk, because it would last forever and it seemed like he always had that same tone of voice. Kinda like that guy from the Clear eyes commercial for eye drops.
