i think that if u were given the option to level up and use the sphere grids it would have been better because then you could have unlocked certain moves at certain lvls

i really enjoyed the sphere grid, mainly because you could customize your characters exactly the way you wanted them. i would love to see it in another ff title

I love FFX's Sphere Grid. Heck, with it, you could even challenge yourself. Like, no using Strength Nodes or no using any stat booster Nodes. Fun, fun times....

I personally prefer the sphere grid because it gives your more opportunities at strength and such.

I actually disagree with you people I much prefer chacracter lvl's.
Don't take it the wrong way I like the Sphere grid as well but I wouldn't really like it in another game. It's a good 'One Of' thing like the lvl up system of FFII

You know I really liked the Sphere Grid. I love leveling up but you only get to level 99 or 100 in a FF game. In FFX you can go beyond that and I think thats cool as hell. I liked the Sphere Grid alot and think its something that should be brought back in a future FF game. In a different way ofcourse.

it's an interesting question, levelling allows every stat to increase at once, which makes the massive EXP requirement in the higher levels worth more than the huge AP requirement to gain an S.LVL after gaining a lot of them. However S.LVL allows for more customisation, so to be honest I don't know on paper which I prefer.

I think I agree more with the SG method of leveling. When considering the immersion into a FF world/game, I look at it this way: If I'm this great hero and I come up against some fearsome foe, would I rather ask myself if I'm strong enough and have the right skills and abilities to kill this beast, or am I close enough in levels to be able to kill it? I think having to consider too many raw numbers pulls me a little bit away from the game.
Final X was my favorite of the series. The SG may have been part of what pulled me into the game so much. FF XII really did make the characters too similar to each other in the end, but they had they right general idea. FF-X allowed me to add skills to each character, without destroying their identity. I know a lot of people play the games just to create a "perfect" file, and the SG again allows this possibility. The SG reminds me a little of FF V where you spend a little time in a job and gain the skill(s) you want/need from it. This way mages can stay mages, fighters can stay fighters and all those "other" classes like Bards, Summoners or Elementalists can keep their flair, but then be tweaked to our liking.
Granted, I am one voice in a vast FF crowd, but I believe as the games become more advanced, it's time for a more advanced leveling system. Leveling from 1-100 (or any other "cap") worked well for a number of years and I'd never change the games that used them. But as the games become more and more realistic, shouldn't our leveling? The Job systems used in many MMO's are a step, but I don't think I need to swing my forge hammer exactly 1000 times or make exactly 100 daggers to move my skill level up 1 point. I also have never never quite agreed with systems where you can only gain a certain skill once you've obtained a certain level. ["Sweet, I just learned Cura. Just 12 more levels before I get Curaga!"] Wouldn't it make more sense if you learned Cura by actually attempting to use white magic or receiving the training somewhere/somehow?
I guess I'm sorta ranting/rambling here so I'll sum it up and see what ya'll think. For amusement I'll create an imaginary conversation between Cloud and Tidus. Keep in mind I am NOT a writer nor really all that creative...
T: "Man, that monster is really tough"
C: "Tell me about it. Don't worry though, I'll be able to kill him when I get to level 15"
T: "Level 15? We're outside! I don't see a building anywhere!"
C: "No, when I kill things I have a cool experience meter that fills up and after a while I get a new level with new skills. 5 more levels and he's going down!"
T: "Umm, as I travel I too have experienced a lot of battles. I have gotten stronger, quicker and found interesting new skills to use along the way, but I've never 'leveled a meter' or whatever. So what's so great about being on a 15?"
C: "No, at level 15 I get to use Magic Sword."
T: "Have you ever even used magic?"
C: "Not yet, but at 15 I can use Magic Sword on the monster and crush him!"
T: "How do you even know it'll work if you've never used magic before??? I think the radiation from all that Materia is rotting your brain. Perhaps one day I'll chose to learn some magic, but I fail to see how I could use it without learning it first? "
C: "Trust me, it'll just BE there and I'll just know..."
T: "So you say, Level-boy. Give my best to Aerith... I'm sure you can Heal her with a level 87 thingy. I'm sure you'll just know by then."
