It depends what level you are at, as to what sort of players are good. Nimrook is the best goalie at all levels though, so he's a definite must-get if you can ever get him from the Psyches. In fact all the Al Bhed players (including Brother) make decent or great Midfielders.
Kilika Beasts start out as the worst team, but by the high levels they quickly become one of the best teams.
Guado Glories have some pretty fast characters if you prefer pace over stats.
Datto manages to get pretty fast, hes actually a decent choice if you dont want to hunt for players and would rather use other characters than Tidus. Keepa amusingly become a funny choice for forward with 99 Shoot at L99. Botta is trash, use someone better. Jassu can be ok (at least he can defend), and Letty is probably the best Auroch at any level with his high passing.

When I was playing X, I usually just stuck with the original Besaid Aurochs. I know I did recruit Wakka, at one point, and he's not bad at all to have in the mix. I believe I stuck with the original team because I heard this rumor you couldn't get the Aurochs Reels, if you didn't? I'm not sure where I heard that/ read it - but yes, that was the reason I stuck with the original team. I'm one of those weird people that has to get everything in a game. Anyway, when you take the time and level those guys up, they honestly aren't that bad! I've won every game with them so far. Give the original guys a try and keep the original team together, baby.

Crap, I typed up a sweet post and the site logged me out while I was typing.
Anyway, the Al-Bheds are definitely the best at Blitzball. Their stats are sweet, but I dun think their outfits are cool enough. I remember using all of them at some point, but I think I have almost always used Nimrook for goalie. Eigaar was a good forward, and I used him a few times with Blappa and Tidus.
Speaking of Tidus, when you get all of his Jecht Shots and Invisible Shot, he is a WRECKING MACHINE. Luff him.
Too bad I can't remember my best line-up; it was epic. D:

I've pretty much got my final team now that I've signed up two Al-Bheds for my defence. I would still like Nimrook for goalie but he always resigns for 20+ games and FFX can go to hell if I'm expected to play that many games before I can get him.

Got to have Brother, he's the powerhouse in the midfield, super quick, with quick leveling up pass end and att attributs. Tidus and wakka up front, Miyu in goal and wedge and Ropp in defence. take jumal and biggs as subs possibly. havn't got many of the other teams players, although people keep saying nimrook is a good option for keeper?

Nimrook has the highest Catch score at all levels so that makes him the best Goalie.
Useful tip to try and make him leave the Psyches. Play matches until Nimrook has 1 match left on his contract. Now, play an Exhibition match against the Psyches, and score as many goals against Nimrook as possible in the second half. This apparently increases the chances of him leaving the Psyches.
If not, Miyu makes a good secondary choice, you can pick her up at the Moonflow.

LF: Vilucha
RF: Larbeight
MF: Vuroja
LF: Ropp
RF: Kulukan
G: Nimrook
*Note: These are the best players at level 99 in my opinion. If you're at the lower levels you might not want to use Larbeight or Kulukan since they suck until around the 70's.
Wedge and Brother are good to start with. If you're willing to wait about 70 levels, Nedus is a beast..

If you're at about level 30 ish who's the best then? cos it'll take a while to get up to level 70 and above!
