| Final Fantasy VIII The first game in the series to consistently use realistically proportioned characters, FF8 also threw more of a futuristic mix into the old (Hi-)potion that is Final Fantasy. |

I definately don't hate this game, since it was my very first FF game and got me hooked on the series.

Simple answer. Because it wasn't VII.

I thought it was pretty good, maybe the storyline wasn't quite up to par with VII, but the gameplay was good.
I thought the storyline could have been better, it got kind of sloppy near the end, but all in all it was a great game.

why do FF fans hate this game?
To tell you the truth, I probably wouldnt have loved it if it wasnt for the Card game, it was new and unique, alot better than the card game from ff9 at least to me....the game was great though to me and had new challenges that no final fantasy before it had. I think some hard core final fantasy gamers hated it just because it was the same ol otherwise.....same summons, same battles that were not in real time, you could leave the game for half an hour and nothing would happen...just no change for the real player. But even though i was a real player who played ff 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 and x-2 i really loved it...i bet you they will never disappoint me no matter how bad they make the game.(maybe, lol )

Erm...if you just put down the controller in the middle of a battle for half an our, expect to be dead when you come back...the monsters keep attacking.

Yeah, I guess I don't quite get that one myself. If in battle, you'd be dead in a short amount of time because all the enemies level up in unison with you. If you mean just standing in place on the world map, yeah you could stand there for three, even six hours on up if you wanted to *shrugs* without anything happening either Lol...
I'm glad you liked the game and I loved Triple Triad myself.

I really don't like this game at all. I don't like the characters, the battle system, most of the plot, and even the card game.
I understand they were supposed to be teenagers, and to act somewhat how a real teenager would act under those situations. So, my honest answer to that is, I don't care. Real teenagers are annoying, and they were all just as annoying or more so. I can say this, cause...well, I was teenager...........and I don't think I'm the only one, and I know for a fact I was annoying. Squall and Rinoa were too annoying on their own, I'm not gonna even go into anyone else.
The battle system was ...something. I don't care if the monsters leveled up with you, so you 'didn't have to level up', that didn't make junctioning and have to continually draw magic any less irritating. I got so fed up after a while I just drew all I could, junctioned it to whatever needed to be junctioined with the most powerful magic available, and then did my my best to use little to no magic at all cause I didn't find it 'fun' or 'enjoyable' to go and have to replenish my magic to get my stats back up.
The card game was...well, just pretty much how I felt about the entire game, irritating. I got the hang of it after a while, but it just wasn't fun.
And one incident in particular in this game made me hate it all the more. I mean, there are stupid plot twists in all games, or ones that just don't make sense, or ones that would be impossible. And they try their best to explain why it happened, or try to make it seem plausible but.........come on......I really can't even come up with anything else other than come on.

Love the game, the characters, and the whole storyline. The reason being is that it had romance in it. What can I say? I'm a romantic at heart.
And I read A LOT of steamy romance novels.
Anywaaaay, I love the battle system too. It was different and unique, and although drawing could be such a pain in the ass, I enjoyed it overall. Yes, even the junctioning. I understand it can be complex and hard to get at first, but if you really appreciate and try to understand how something works, then you'll learn to love it eventually.
Characters...well I'm sure you all know how much I love Squall. And I thought Rinoa was okay. She's pretty. I didn't really find her character annoying that much. What I found annoying was that she was too much a damsel in distress. I like a heroine who could fend for herself. The other characters were alright as well. I don't really have anything againsts them.
