Who was surprised in the end to see Squall standing on the ship?
My friend told me before hand that Squall dies in this game and i was surprised to see Squall standing at the end beside Rinoah because Everything just dissappeared on the screen.

No, your friend must've tricked you.
I wasn't surprised at all, I knew the game was going to have a happy ending (as FF's do anyway ) so it really wasn't that much of a shocker to see Rinoa and Squall on the deck like that.
To be honest though, I had some doubt when Squall was in that...'dream-land', I thought he had died for a while. xD

Uh, I knew he lived. Remember when the Balamb Garden came to rescue Rinoa and Squall on that field? Rinoa had a happy look on her face as she gazed down on Squall...a look of hope that suggested he's still alive.

I think I heard he died as well and was really hoping he didn't! I don't think I was really surprised to see him standing with Rinoa at the end because it's rare to see a game ending tragically like that lol. I kind of guessed he was going to be alright from watching the scene where Rinoa runs over to him.

I seen it that Squall had died and when Rinoa picked him up in her arms and the heavens opened up was her desent into madness and then the ednignw as her perfect ending. Everyone aboard the Garden happy and she is with Squall, happy.

Was I surprised? No.
Actually, I thought Squall would end up lost in time... But then I figured he was alright when Rinoa smiled at him in the field and the fact that everyone was partying on garden in the end FMV.

I thought he was still alive and all, I just thought that when the camcorder runs out of batteries as you see Rinoa beckoning to someone outside (and the remaining credits roll before the final scene) that the game had cruelly decided to leave the outcome open-ended and weren't going to show you what happened next XD - I was wrong of course but it could have worked either way.
It's probably worth it though just to see Squall smiling at the end.

I personally found the ending to be too peppy. (Call me a pessimist) I like to think of it as if Squall had actually died, and Rinoa went mad, as SaphireStar said. Leading of course...to the Rinoa/Ultimecia loophole theory. =]
