| Final Fantasy VIII The first game in the series to consistently use realistically proportioned characters, FF8 also threw more of a futuristic mix into the old (Hi-)potion that is Final Fantasy. |

Im a big fan of Squall, i believe that Squall is stronger than Seifer at the start of the game.
But both have a different style of fighting, Seifer is more of a "run in with guns blazing" type of fighter, whereas i think Squall is more of a tactical fighter.

seifer is reckless in battle. he is also greedy and selfish. however his swordmanship is nice. however when squall and seifer are forced to party up you can check the stats and squall is more powerful

my thoughts excatly, Seifer was just at higher levels during the game,so you can also say at the same given time Seifer has more experience so was "stonger" that way.

i think that seifer was stronger because yes it did take all your team to beat him as the sorcessess knight but i dont think it relli gave the chance for one-on-one a lot of the time, only the once i can remember i think. yeah so i think that seifer could easily kick squalls ass even though squall is amazing at the end of the game

Seifer of course, They all ganged up on Seifer to defeat him, also Seifer cut Odin into 2 half instead of the opposite, so I believe Seifer is stronger.

Mmmehhh...I'm still a bit torn on the issue of Squall vs. Seifer. Now, though, I'm starting to lean towards Seifer, if only a little. On one hand, the guy defeats a Summon Spirit. There haven't been many Final Fantasy characters who've been able to do that single-handedly (as in, without the support of a party). Storyline-wise, I don't know how strong Odin was supposed to be. I'd imagine he was below Bahamut and the like, but was easily one of the Upper-Tier GF's, so for Seifer to slice him in half is certainly an incredible feat. Still, even with that being said, there are some things that just don't add up.
Throughout the entire game, Seifer and Squall are portrayed as and considered by the majority of the cast to be either equals or extremely close. This is evident in both of their battles on Disc 1. The first ends in a draw with Seifer injuring Squall and Squall returning the favor, while the second ends with a victory for Squall, though this, as mentioned WAY back in the thread, could be attributed to Seifer being a bit out of shape due to not training. However, if Seifer really did have the kind of superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes he displayed when he sliced Odin in half, it shouldn't really matter whether or not he'd been training. With that kind of raw power at his displosal, he would've torn Squall to shreds without even breaking a sweat. So...how did it happen? How did Seifer get so incredibly strong in such a short amount of time?
I guess this could be explained by the fact that Seifer is a Sorceress's Knight. He might've been powered up by Ultimecia or something like that. That's really the only explanation I can think of for Seifer's jump from "Incredibly Strong Human" to "Outright Superhuman". I know this is Final Fantasy and all, but otherwise, it doesn't really make sense even by fantasy standards. Of course, Squall is now Rinoa's knight as-of the game's conclusion, so, if this really is true, it can be assumed that Squall, too, will achieve that kind of power.

I think Seifer's more stronger then Squall after all it took your whole party/team just to beat his sorceress knight form.Plus imo Seifer has always been stronger then Squall since the first battle with him.Even though I hate to admit it. :(

I wouldn't say that's neccessarily true. When Squall and Seifer battle in the opening FMV, the two seem pretty evenly matched. It's true that Seifer gives Squall a scar across his forehead, but what people seem to froget is that Squall returns the favor and gives Seifer an identical scar mere moments later. Then, in their second battle, Squall overpowers Seifer with what appears to be very little effort on his part, especially considering he's still prepared to fight Edea immediately afterwards. Now, it is true that Seifer hasn't been brushing up on his skill with the Gunblade lately, but really, how much time passed since their last encounter? I don't think it was that significant, all things considered. I'd say that, as of the end of Disc 1, Squall is the superior fighter between the two.
When it comes to the fight on Disc 2...I don't think that can really be used as evidence, either. The party is not fatigued at all after their fights battle against Seifer. What's more, Edea seems to magically revive him so that he can fight the party a second time, and they still beat him. As if that weren't enough, the party beats him and still has enough stamina left to beat the ever-loving tar out of Edea. So yeah, while the entire party does beat Seifer, I don't really think that the entire party was needed to beat him. They seem to overpower him quite easily, and they do it twice before proceeding to beat down a powerful sorceress, no less. I think that, even at the end of Disc 2, Squall is superior to Seifer.
Disc 3 is where things start to get a bit confusing. Seifer seems to increase in power exponentially from his last encounter to the point where he's capable of slicing a Summon Spirit in half effortlessly. I don't really know how he did it, but the fact remains, he did. It's at this point where I think he's probably superior to Squall, though the party still doesn't seem very fatigued after beating him. They do, after all, go on to defeat an (albeit groggy) Adel. Even so, I'd say that it's at this point where Seifer is superior to Squall, though I still don't know how he did it. I suppose, if he were empowered by Ultimecia, that would explain his sudden increase in strength. However, if that really is the case, then Squall has probably achieved a similar level of power by now, considering he's Rinoa's knight.
