The Bad Points of FFVIII

Since theres alreasy a good points thread well heres the dark side for the lightside

what did you think was bad in FFVIII? I'd like you to only list the bad points of the game please, no listing any positive ones

ill start off

1) Character backgrounds were terrible, they were like Clones of each other decorated differently - "grew up in an orphanage - lost memories" sums up 5 of them perfectly. and the other one? little miss "Lets-form-a-rebel-group-to-piss-off-Daddy!" was hardly better.

2) Villains - Edea was cool yes, but she changed way too much when she turned good, and she was way underused. Ultimecia came from nowhere.

3) Battle system - i like to use magic, so how dare this game make it so if i use it i get weaker?! Horrible system, simply horrible.

Why make a topic which just buts a game down,the reason i made the good points of FFVIII was so that we could appreciate what Square have done.

good thread idea AG.

draw/junctioning- i don't like how they used magic as an item, i also dont like how one of the best magic used for powering your characters up were spells like full-life, which is obviously very useful in battle.

background stories- the characters were developed fairly well, however the whole everyone coming from some orphanage thing was pretty corny. also the fact that they were all rebellious teenagers bugged me out.

leveling up- i really hated how leveling up actually made the game more challening. i mean, whats the point in leveling up, it takes away the fun of training your characters when all you have to do is use spells to power up.

im SURE if i thought long enough id be able to write an essay, but ill leave it at this.

why not? theres one like it for FFIX and FFXII. and since a few people heavily dislike FFVIII it gives them a place to vent

I spose i just dislike it when people just try to look out for negative things but thats just me.

The only thing that really bothers me ob FFVIII is on disc 4 when you cant vist the towns but i keep a save on disc 3 so thats not a problem anymore.

My biggest peeve about this game is the character backgrounds, character interaction, character development...the characters just point blank sucked...

The setting was too industrial and boring. It went from fantasy to sci/fi, which completely took the fun out of the game for me.

Not to mention that there were no moogles, or worthwhile chocobo sidequests.

The thread title confused me

I thought this was the bad points one

Anyways, the thing I hate the most about the game were the lame character backgrounds, not to mention the draw system, which was one of the most cumbersome in the series.
Also, the prevalence of romance over action (my opinion) just ruined the game for me. =\

- Characters (not one was cool

)
- Equipment system and how to obtain those weapons (stupid system)
- Ability system (junctioning and stuff)
- Fantasy factor not enough in it ( I didnt like the towns that actually looked like the towns and cities I see every day in rl, hardly any non-human races,...)

Dont get me wrong tho I think it's a fabolous game but in comparison to other FFs it's not rlly near them

-SIEFER = he was supposed to be the cool rival, but turned out to be a pathetic weakling who posed no challenge whatsoever (and I think he was kind of a kid at heart).

-DRAWING = never again should this even be thought of. Annoying, frustrating, boring and just plain unwanted.

-JUNCTIONING = just didn't care for it much at all. As Orichalcon stated, it was magics like Full-Life, Curaga and such that were best for stats when they were one of the few magics that were useful in the game.

-SETTING = although nice to look at (especially Esthar) they abandoned a lot of the fantasy in this game (hello, Final Fantasy), which didn't go down well with me.

-EASY = for me, this game was absolute piss. I could strut around this game and defeat the game's bosses without worrying at all. They took next to no damage and all I had to do was attack a good deal of the time (with the help of my GF's.

-NO ENTRY = and the disc 4 thing was unacceptable!

Now, don't get me wrong I don't hate this game, it has more good qualities than bad. I just think the bad stand out too much for me to avoid them. I still love this game though.
