| Final Fantasy VIII The first game in the series to consistently use realistically proportioned characters, FF8 also threw more of a futuristic mix into the old (Hi-)potion that is Final Fantasy. |

Question about Stat Raising?
Just a quick question about the Str/Spd/Mag/HP/Vit Ups etc etc.
I haven't played this game a 3 or 4 years so it's hard to remember everything. I'm just about to start a new file, and i was reading on a guide about the Str/Spd/Mag Up things, and it seems that they take alot of money to acquire, over 50,000G anyway i think. Is it worth getting them and raising stats with them or is it possible to max stats with just junctioning magic? It's just am gonna do one of those perfect games ya know . I will prob have a few more questions to ask soon .

Personally, i prefer junctioning magic, it's simpler and most the time you can get the same results.

I would say it’s the best way to max out those stats in a shorter amount of time. Sure, you can always junction magic to them - maxing them out quicker, but in the long run, you can use the HP Up, Luck Up, Mag Up, Spr Up, Str Up and Vit Up to raise those abilities eliminating the need of junctioning your most useful magic. Also, you don’t have to purchase them as most are learned by your GF’s and they can also be refined from certain items.
Either way, I’d definitely have to say their well worth it, especially if you can get them early-on in the game.

Ok, a few questions:
Can 'statbuilders' be bought? Where?
If they can be refined, could tell how?
---
I haven't found them in any store yet, do I have to use the 'familiar' ability?

Yeah well my Ifrit had learned Strength Bonus, which adds +1 onto strength with every level up. But once you reach 100 that will no longer take effect, and probably wont succeed in getting 255 strength without junctioning.
Well from what i know, you can't buy the 'Ups' in any shop. But you but certain things, mainly from Esthar and a certain number of them refine into the 'Ups'. And basically for each one it costs 50,000+ Gil for the ammount of things you need to refine into 1 'Up'. So thats fairly expensive...I know theres a few 'Ups' where you win items from monsters and refine them, meaning no money. I was only just wondering if there is an easier way to do this?

The best way to stat-raise is to resist the temptation to level up early and wait until you have the GF abilities. As you said, the item stat-raisers are quite pricey and hardly worth the effort. Once you have the GF's you can start leveling up like crazy (Cactuar and Ifrit will probably be the most helpful).

Familiar… I don’t believe it’s needed for these items to show up, as far as I can remember, Esthar is the only location were HP-J Scroll, Str-J Scroll, Vit-J Scroll, Mag-J Scroll and the Spr-J Scroll can be purchased. Anyway, I think it takes two of each to be refined into a Mag Up, Spd Up, etc...
There are many different ways of obtaining them, such as refining them from certain items saving you Gil. Ah well, I’d list them all, but there are too many different ways of getting them, best advice would be downloading a guide off the net. That should give you all the possibilities available.

lol, My bad, but you knew what I meant anyway... Str Bonus, Spd Bonus, etc...
Again, you're correct, I had it reversed in my previous post... It's been awhile.... Anyway, Mag Up's, Spd Up's, etc... can't be purchased but you can purchase HP-J Scrolls, Str-J Scrolls, Vit-J Scrolls, Mag-J Scrolls and the Spr-J Scrolls which are refined into HP Up's, Mag Up's, Spd Up's and so on.

Yeah but you need 10 of these scrolls or sometimes less to refine into another item then refine that into the 'Up'. Heres some info on how to get them, just for future reference.
1 Luck-J Scroll = 1 Luck Up
1 Aegis Amulet = 1 Spd Up
1 Gaea's Ring = 1 HP Up
10 Power Wrists = 1 Str Up
5 Adamantines = 1 Vit Up
1 Knight's Code = 1 Vit Up
10 Magic Armlets = 1 Spr Up
1 Monk's Code = 1 Str Up
10 Royal Crowns = 1 Mag Up
50 Jet Engines = 1 Spd Up
1 Hundred Needles = 1 Spd Up
5 Rocket Engines = 1 Spd Up
And to get those items, or some of them.
HP-Up
10 HP-J Scrolls = 1 Giant's Ring ------->
10 Giant's Rings = 1 Gaea's Ring
Spd-Up
10 Jet Engines = 1 Rocket Engine
50 Barriers = 1 Aegis Amulet
Str-Up
2 Glow Curtains = 1 Monk's Code
10 Str-J Scrolls = 1 Power Wrist
Mag-Up
10 Spr-J Scrolls = 1 Hypno Crown ------->
10 Hypno Crowns = 1 Royal Crown
Vit-Up
5 Holy Wars = 1 Knight's Code
Spr-Up
10 Mag-J Scrolls = 1 Force Armlet ----------->
10 Force Armlets = 1 Magic Armlet
This process costs ALOT of money, around 4 billion i think. Thers an easy way to get money though, Mesmerizes are common in Trabia and Esthar walkways. 1 of the Mesmerize Blades will refine into 20 MEGA-POTIONS with Recov Med-RF and mega-potions can be sold for 7,500gil!
So say you get 100 mesmerize blades, thats..1.5 BILLION gil already. So i guess it shouldn't take THAT long, for how it looks anyway.
Killing mesmerizes may get you other items, but if you mug them you will always get the blade.
