The centra invented the lunatic pandora, and the gardens etc.
The crater was created by the lunar cry when the centra used the lunatic pandora. The impact from the lunar cry wiped out the centa and caused that crater.

Don't get me wrong, but I've always suspected they had sex. Of course, it could be something else, but knowing Seifer and Rinoa, and how Rinoa tends to be quite easy...again, I could be wrong.
