| Final Fantasy VIII The first game in the series to consistently use realistically proportioned characters, FF8 also threw more of a futuristic mix into the old (Hi-)potion that is Final Fantasy. |

Ugh it would have been so fun to learn more and more about Hyne...
Remember in FFX when they had secrets written in Al Bhed all over the world...they should have had like "history lessons" on Hyne and Lunatic Pandora, and the Cetra. XD
And yeah I was pretty P.o.ed that I didn't get to learn more about Lunatic Pandora...=[

I think the story of VIII was so interesting, it would be nice to learn more about that stuff. I don't want to dare say the word prequel because it might give sqenix moar ideas about title raping

Well if giving up that half began the tradition of passing down sorceress' powers, something must have happened where he thought it would be a good idea to pass down his powers, leaving that half of his body useless afterwards, methinks. There's probably more than one or two sorceresses, they're just not mentioned in the storyline.
Of course, this is all speculation.

OR they did get secretly married, and they just chose to show the scene at the end of the game...which makes not a lot of sense...
So if there were a prequel, Raine still would have died, and Laguna wouldn't have been there for her.

I'm confused. =/ Everyone had the chance to go to whichever time they wanted...? I didn't know that...I thought those were just flashbacks, and in Laguna's case, he was remembering Raine when she was still alive...with a ring on her finger. Perhaps he merely proposed to her as there wasn't any indication in the in-game that they actually married. But then again, it's been so long since I last played, so I don't remember the details. >.>

I don't know...it's confusing me now too...because that's how I always saw it. And there is no mention in the game that Laguna and Raine were married...
See...before time compression begins, Dr. Odine tells the team that they have to use their minds to reach their destination. The team all agree to think of one place to meet up in the future; Edea's orphanage...by using the power of thought, they manage to reach the orphanage.
After Ultimecia is defeated, time begins to return to it's normal flow...
Remember the ending sequence when Squall is transported to the orphanage and he sees himself as a boy?
Shortly after, Ultimecia is transported to the same location...
We can only assume that Squall's thoughts lead him back to the orphanage when he was a child...to the place where he was "happy" once.
Ultimecia's thoughts on the other hand lead her to the orphanage because for one, she was looking for someone to pass her powers onto...and she had just been beaten my Squall...so if she has "passing powers on to another sorceress" and "squall" on her mind...where will she go? To the same place where there's another sorceress, and squall!
So naturally, I assumed that Laguna used his thoughts of Raine to travel back and see her again. ^.^

I always thought they were flashbacks too, I think Id rather remember it that way, it just seems....nicer I think.
I mean all he did was put a ring on her finger so even then it wouldnt technically class as marriage, just...them commiting themselves to each other O_o
Yet again a thread has left me questioning the goings on in one of my favourite games

Me too! but then i sort of thought they were like memories. When Laguana is at the grave and the bit before i thought he was wishing what would have happened, what he should have done maybe?
Gonna have to battle Utimacea agagin now just to get the ending up cos i forgotten it too!

I think that the bit with Laguna was a flashback, and then the bit with Squall and Ultimecia was them actually going back... See, Laguna is in his old outfit in the flashback, where as Squall and Ultimecia are in their normal clothing. The change in outfits for Laguna was what made me think it was flashback.

Or it could be that that's exactly what happened in the past and he was just reliving the moment. That's what I've always believed in anyway.
