Yeah it was kind of obvious, but you shouldn't blame yourself that was probably one of the most boring parts in the game, so it's only natural that you skip the dialogue in a hurry.

I realized it, even if I barely recall most of the game's plot due to how mindbogglingly boring both it and the characters are.

Well if you pay a lot of attention to every single hint the game provides, you can figure out that Juliua and Caraway are Rinoa's parents, and Squall is the son of Laguna and Raine. Of course, sometimes we don't pay attention to insignificant details that could lead us to these revelations.

I got it my first play through, but don't feel bad.
I know people who played through all of FFIX and didn't know that Kuja was a guy. =/

i didn't pick it up my first two runs... I was like 12-13 around that time so i can be excused. I did get it my last run though so you aren't in any way stupid

Okay, maybe it took me until my second playthrough to realize this, but that's because I was like 10 years old when I first played it. I was in the 6th grade, so...yeah I was 10. I wasn't one of those fast-learner, smart mouth, sarcastic genius kids like you see in the movies, believe it or not.
Julia being Laguna's first crush, and Rinoa's mother. And Laguna being Squall's father...Squall and Rinoa are just meant to be I guess. ^.^ |

I got it the first time but I will say that it is something that you skip over if you miss the few lines that tell it. My friend, whom I'm introducing to FF, said that Julia reminded her of Rinoa, in how she acted and looked, but any resemblence is hardly proof because the little pixelated faces can be hard to distinguish anyway.
