FFVIII and its Romance

Did it ever seem to you that the romance of the plot ever got in the way of you enjoying the game in any way? O.o
I mean, in particular, saving Rinoa about 4 or 5 times, all the while having to play 'knight' before you lost her again.

I personally thought it did. Got in the way of my enjoying it anyways.

Thoughts?

That´s the reason why so many people hate Rinoa and FFVIII!

Because lets face it during the first two CDs of the game Rinoa is completely hitting on Squall and he does not give a darn about her that´s the truth.

Then all of the sudden we reach the 3rd CD and Squall starts acting like Rinoa is the only thing that matters i mean seriously what´s up with that!?

And you are right we have to save her a lot of times:

1st) When that pathetic girl as a fit atack and decides to go destroy Edea to show her daddy and the SeeDs that she is also strong and not completely useless which she is.

2nd) When she goes and "help" Zell keep the G-Soldiers out of the square and she gets trapped and ends up almost dying once again.

3rd) When she is possesed by Ultimecia and goes into space and Squall goes into space to save her again.

4th) After the esthar guys take her to the sorceress memorial to send her to space you have to go there and help out again.

You see what i mean!?

Plus right from the begining you can understand that Rinoa is nothing more than a spoiled super sweet 17 girl who decides to form a revolution because her daddy probably didn´t get her a new cellphone or something...

Remember when you are on the train Watts and Zone call her by "Princess" and tell you to go wake her up because it´s her nap time!

Her nap time!?A 17 year girl is adressed as princess and as a nap time...humm that kind of makes me wonder about her

On the other side we have the anti-social Squall who acts like a troubled 50 year old man.

How can two characters who are completely different and the fact that one completely ignores the other for half the game start loving each other from a moment to another?

You see i really enjoy FFVIII but the main problem is that the "love story" and half the characters in it are completely pathetic.

That's one of the main problems with the game. Ever since Rinoa got her claws into Squall, the whole save me dramas/escapades really annoyed me, and I realised that it wasn't worth my time training her.

the love story in this game pulled my mind away from the rest of the story therefore making it easier for me to not give a shit about the main story. it just wasn't gripping enough and the love story didn't exactly make up for it, i mean the love story was pretty typical...guy saves the girl, over... and over... and over again. don't mean to get off topic but thats why IX was great it balanced the love story and the main story, and VIII should have done a better job with that. but oh well, whats done is done.

I liked Final Fantasy VII because of the gameplay. ;P I really do not like Rinoa. Ughhh Rinoa is a crack whore.

Yeah, Squall was like a perfect soldier "cold and realistic" and suddenly Rinoa arrived and turned him into a "soft emotional guy"....

Yeah the love story was not that bad (even though Laguna X Julia's failed love story was way better). After the 2nd disc, everything is about "Rinoa this, Rinoa that....blah, blah, blah"

I knew that Rinoa was going to be absorved by Adel so I never actually trained her.

The game was great during the first 2 discs, went bad during the third, and recovered a little during the fourth.

FFVII had a better plot though FFVIII is still my favorite

I didn't like Rinoa.
You get here back at the end of the game 20 levels below everyone else and since the Monsters level up with you she really sucks!

Pissed me off when They make you use her in the final dungeon

I thought the romance plot was very immature. Throughout the beginning of the game, Rinoa is constantly hitting on Squall, chasing after him, sitting on his lap. The rest of the characters are trying to hook them up; stopping right in the middle of an important mission to borrow Squalls ring so Rinoa can wear it and feel giddy. Squall abandoned like 928493 of his assignments just to rescue Rinoa.

God...
The romance in this game was quite pesky. It ruined what could have been a great plot.

I know, makes the whole thing 'seem' like it's immature, and whatnot.
No offense to those who like the game, I like it too, but it's just this one aspect of it that I thought was really childish.
I thought Rinoa was striving for a bit too much for attention, personally.
And the gang just egged her on.

It WAS quite immature to have Rinoa act like she did. I hated how she was all over him like a little school girl. Ugh. Squall should've been like "stfu, bitch" haha. The Romance Story was very...lame. I don't think Squall really likes her. He just knew he could not escape her grasp.
