Final Fantasy VIII The first game in the series to consistently use realistically proportioned characters, FF8 also threw more of a futuristic mix into the old (Hi-)potion that is Final Fantasy.

I belive thats wat FF is all about. If FF doesnt have a love story then its just boring... but when it has it it makes the plot more interesting.

Not unique, no. More interesting, indeed, but not unique.

It's not really the fact that this game of the series has more love than the other games, but that the creators chose to spotlight it more and really intertwined it with the plot - any arguments against Squall and Rinoa as a couple might be valid even up until Castle Ultimecia, but after that final FMV, it really seals the deal by making their love so utterly integral to the resolution.

This was the Final Fantasy game I hated the most. I just did not grow very fond of Rinoa OR Squall. I didn't like Rinoa at all, she was too childish for me. I did enjoy the game in the end though.

As for making this RPG unique? I don't really think so. Yeah there's love, sure FF8 was probably the only few back then, but I didn't feel like it took romance in RPG to a newer creative level or anything.

VIII love story is the best XD

I wouldn't say it makes it unique as such, however, romance definately made things far more interesting. I agree with the numerous posters who say that the whole thing came across somewhat childish, which really made it, ata times, annoying. However, I have to agree that it was alsoa good romance tale. It was made for more endearing because of the fact that Squall began as a cold person who really didn't show any emotion. Over the course of the game his feelings develop, with a little spark at the dance I believe, and the romance begins to blossom; culminating in Squalls rescure mission. I think the space scene was quite good and dramatic. Final Fantasy X also had a great love story, as did IX. VIII, however, was a bit more over-the-to (or dramatic) with it. So much so even that at times I thought it was a bit cheesey.

Don't get me wrong, I really liked VIII overall. The love story though...it seemed too "normal" to me, if there is a "normal" in a story like that. I much preferred IX and X's love stories, because they were set up for failure, as the characters fell for someone else that was so out of their league, but then in the end, it all worked out and the roadblocks to their relationships were overcome.

Sure, there were roadblocks in VIII, but it just seemed like two normal people falling in love, there was nothing "wrong" with it, it was always possible at any point in the story, it was just the characters themselves avoiding it (in Squall's case anyway). This was not the case in the following two games.

The romance in the game is what made it prominent, now we all know that that really doesn't mean that prominent means exciting, invigorating, and overall lovely, but it really does make the game unique. Just...in a more negative connotation for others than say other games like IX have.

It's obvious that I loved this game, most of the characters as well as the romance in it, but in all truth... I’d have to say it is and it isn’t the most romantic. I guess it all depends on who’s romance you’d like to compare with the rest, Laguna & Julia’s, Laguna & Raine’s or Squall & Rinoa’s.

In terms of Laguna’s love plots, I’d have to say yes. I found it very romantic in nature that Laguna and Julia’s love (albeit a brief one) lived on through their children. I also found the love story between Laguna and Raine very romantic as well, especially at the very end of the game. Both were pretty well done, in my opinion.

In terms of Squall and Rinoa’s love story, I’d have to say... no. It was a bit immature at times, but hey, it is what it is... stereotypical teenage love. Anyway, I found their romance to be more realistic then romantic.

I don’t know, with all of that said, it’s hard for me to call it either way. It might not be the most romantic in the series for some, but it definitely has the most romance when compared to the rest.

Anyway, in my opinion, what truly made this game unique compared to the rest, was the departure from a Fantasy setting to a more Science Fiction one.

To be honest, i kinda liked Squall and Rinoa's romance in VIII, yeah it was childish and annoying sometimes. But VIII wouldn't be the same if Square made it more romantic and less of the typical teenage love. Laguna and Raine's love had to be the most romantic, and his with Julia wasn't so much. He was too shy haha!

Although i have to say, Squall and Rinoas love did mature a bit later on in the game, so it wasn't all childish.
