Zack didn't have a number. He was just a member of SOLDIER, at First Class rank. The men in black coats were the failed clones or whatever, and came after Zack's death

Zack didn't get a number because he was the failed 'Clone' that Sephiroth claimed was Cloud, but then again they escaped before they were to be given numbers anyway.

Not a clone in a traditional sense. We've covered this in a few topics. HE was as much of a "clone" as they were... but none of them were technically cloned.

He wasn't ever in SOLIDER. And none of the numbers were either. The numbers were the burnt people of Nibelheim. Tifa and Cloud's families.
