Who Was In Control?

The game never fully explains this, who's in control of whom. Is Sephiroth controlling Jenova or is she controlling him? as you know Jenova was disguised as sephiroth for most of disk one and the start of disk 2 (since the real sephiroth was in suspended animation in the northern crator) it was Jenova (as sephiroth) who killed Aerith, but was that because Jenova saw Aerith as a threat to her plan or was it because Sephiroth saw her as a threat to his plans? Since after all Aerith was the only one who could summon Holy which they all thought would destroy meteor

thats just one of the questions that makes you think who was in control Jenova or Sephiroth?

Ill post what i think after i think about it a bit more

I think Aeris was much of a threat as any character in FFVII...but that´s not the topic.

Personaly i think and have read (on wikipedia) that Jenova first tryed to possess Sephiroth but since Sephiroth had similar goals he learned to manipulate the jenova cells and ended up manipulating them.

That actually makes sense because when you fight Jenova for the last time it seems that she is protecting Sephiroth because you fight her before fighting him.

So my conclusion is that Sephiroth learned to control Jenovas cells...or perhaps Jenova allowed herself to be controled by Sephiroth since he had the same goals she once had.

hmmm i would imagine that sephiroth was serving jenova's will, so in a way, it was jenova, but in another one that serves with both their mind and body, it also is sephiroth, but sephiroth's will is also jenova's will, so in the end i would say jenova

yes i would have to say that jenova was definitely in control, since sephiroth is just a soldier with jenova cells...right? i may be wrong i havent played this game in ages. but yeah i definitely think that jenova was in control since it seemed like sephiroth was doing everything for "mother".

I remember a thread like this before. I could be wrong though.

Anyway, I lean towards Jenova controls Sephiroth. However, the relationship between the two is mutually beneficial. They're both getting what each wants - Jenova destroys another inferior race & Sephiroth takes what he feels is rightfully Jenova's. It's a win-win.

Since Sephiroth wasn't present, I'd have to say it was because Jenova saw her as a threat. After all, Jenova is responsible for destroying the entire Cetra race - why wouldn't she want to finish what she started?

I said it before, Jenovah was in control of Sephiroth cuz of the way he always seemed to be drawn to Jenovah, who was his mommy lol

I think it's more like this.
Jenova's cells are connected to one another, even if they aren't physically attatched. They draw back to one another when seperated, as we see with the reunion.

Let's take a popular quote from Hojo in Disc two as he describes his research and study of Jenova's behavior:

Five years have passed, and now the Clones have begun to return. I thought the clones would begin to gather at Midgar where Jenova is stored. But my predictions were not entirely correct. Jenova itself began to move away from the Shinra Building. But being a genius that I am, I soon figured it out. You see it was all Sephiroth's doing. Sephiroth is not just content to diffuse his will into the Lifestream; he wants to manipulate the Clones himself."

It could be argued that the presense of Jenova's cells in Sephiroth's body caused him to have the ambition and desire to destroy the planet and "become a God" as he once said...

If we recall the scene where Zack and Cloud escape from Nibelhiem mansion...What happened at the mansion? Both Cloud and Zack were infused with Jenova cells. What happens to most people when they are infused with the cells? They become mindless drones like the black caped men who roam the world...Cloud's body could not fight off the infusion, and he became comatose. Zack on the other hand; first class soldier, was able to resist the effect of the cells on the body. Both Zack and Sephiroth are seemingly mentally unnaffected by the presense of Jenova's cells.

Jenova does not have full mental control over strong willed people such as Zack and Sephiroth. Zack's overpowerment of the cell's effect on the body gives us proof that not all people are affected...

During his travels through the lifestream, Sephiroth came into control of the Jenova cells which plagued his body. He began to control Jenova.

Jenova would have been in control if she was fully restored, but I didnt see any thing in the game to indicate Sephiroth was taking orders.

There's no arguements about it. Sephiroth was controlling Jenova. Fact.

Haven't SE already announced that though?
