Starting a New Game
Well as the description states I have decided to start a new game on Final Fantasy VII and this time I am going to try and make it harder by not levelling up so much (if at all). I was wondering if you have any useful tips for such a gameplan and anything I should know about secret wise at the start of the game?

Useful tips? I can't say I remember any since it's been years since I played it...but uh, just go search for guides and walkthroughs online. xD You're bound to get tips there.
Hmm, and not leveling up as much, huh? Well good luck with that. It'll definitely be harder, but I'm sure you can do it.

I don't need to level up to get any secrets I may have missed, special items, materias etc. I always end up missing things from what I have read here, and then it's too late to go and get them, so it would be great to get the information now before I leave Midgar and miss anything that will be useful later on in the game, or at least useful to have for the section inside Midgar.

Oh, when you're in the Shinra building escaping... If you didn't know, the 3rd class SOLDIER dudes have Hardedge in their possession. If you steal it from them, it should last you a good bit. It's a bit of a pain in the ass to steal it cuz it takes forever, though. >>:C
I happen to be doing the same thing, lol.

In the train Graveyard shortly before Aerith is kidnapped you can Steal a Striking Staff from those ghost things, giving Aerith a useful weapon for quite some time

You can steal an carbon bangles from moth slashers in the shinra building. They're really good armor at that point in the game. Also don't forget to read the turtle's paradise flyer #2 in the shinra building.

Also, when you have like, 3000-4000 HP, you should try to get Beta from the snake thing in the lake on the way to Junon Harbor.
Cosmo Canyon sells HP Plus and MP Plus Materia when you go there for the first time, in case you didn't know.
Oh, and as SOON as you have the sub, go down and look around for a sunken plane. Save at the save point before you do ANYTHING. You can fight Reno and Rude there.
Rude has the Ziedriech or whatever it's called... It's the best armor in the game, but it has a huge drawback. No materia slots. T-T
Reno has the Touph Ring, in case you hadn't noticed, Seph had in the flashback.
But I wouldn't fight them right away. The plane is full of monsters that can KO you in one hit. But to the northern sub-entrance, go down the steps and look in the bottom LEFT corner and you'll find Yuffie's ultimate weapon, which is great for kicking ass in that part of the game. :]
