IGNs Top Ten FF7 Characters
10. Cait Sith

9. Red XIII

8. Cid Highwind

7. Yuffie Kisaragi

6. Zack Fair

5. Reno

4. Tifa Lockhart

3. Cloud Strife

2. Aerith Gainsborough

1. Sephiroth

So, what do you think? I was a little surprised by some of the list, particularly Tait sith, Yuffie and Reno. I was also surprised that Cloud was only at number 3. I'm not surprised that Sephiroth is at number one, and I expected Aerith and Tifa to be in the top 5 too.

Not surprised that Sephiroth is number one, although I had expected Cloud to be either one or two. Now, Reno and Rude...number 5? Really? And...where is Vincent? Now that's shocking to me, considering that Cait Sith is 10...

I'm very surprised that Vincent and Hojo weren't even mentioned at all. Vincent is a much better character than Cait Sith, even if I despised Dirge of Cerberus. For Reno to beat out Zack, that's a bit ridiculous as well.
I think that list was just some guy's personal favorites. I give it the thumbs down.

I have to agree. That list is quite puzzling. The fandom for Vincent is a whole lot larger than Cait Sith ... anywhere. Being beaten out of the top 10 by him is quite strange really.

I dunno why but my post from before either just disapeared or for some reason I forgot to hit post.
Either way, I was just wondering why they tend to make a FF top list around every month or two. They all tend to end up the same.
About Vincent on the other hand, I personally just didn't see him on the top since he's not a main character. Main people went through the first play through without even knowing of him, I know I did.

This is strange to me because of Cait Sith and Cid. Cid is alright and all, but I didn't expect him to make the list. I was hoping Rufus would be in there.
It doesn't look at all like a general consensus though.
5. Tseng/Cait Sith
4. Reno
3. Dyne
2. Rufus
1. Red XIII

If we're going to make lists, I'll make my own and explain:
10. Yuffie Kisaragi
Let's face it, Yuffie has been in every Final Fantasy game after 7. Yuffie is the 'cheerful, hyper, slightly insane, underage, loli-con sort of character. Yuffie's character translates to: Selphie, Eiko, Rikku, and Penelo.
As a character, she's been in FFVII, Crisis Core, Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Before Crisis, Ehrgeiz, and Kingdom Hearts. She was an optional character in the game, yet became popular enough to get her in all of the spin-offs.
9. Reno
You have to admit it, Reno has a huge following and fanbase. For a side character that isn't even playable, that's pretty ridiculous. That's why Reno landed a spot on my list.
8. Jenova
FFVII would not exist, without Jenova. In fact, for those that don't know it: Jenova is more active within FFVII than Sephiroth himself: because throughout all of FFVII, all we were seeing as the player, was Jenova. She also caused the Geostigma, and was the cause for...oh...every single event that occurred in FF7 history. Without Jenova, that game doesn't exist.
7. Tifa Lockhart
Tifa was one of the first female characters to personify the 'strong, hot, yet loveless or angsty' sort of character. The Tifa spin-offs would include: Quistis, Freya, Lulu, and Ashe.
Although, the real reason she made it on this list, is she was the first FF character to introduce the 'babe' factor. In any and all threads or polls about 'Hottest FF character,' Tifa always wins, by a fair amount. Square was pretty darn smart to figure out the connection between large boobs and game sales.
6. Professor Hojo
Hojo, is one of the most grotesque characters ever introduced to Final Fantasy. Sephiroth doesn't have anything on this evil-doer. Hojo created a Hell for Sephiroth, Ifalna, Gast, Vincent, Lucrecia, Cloud, Zack, Weiss, Nero, and even Aerith, if you think about it. Sephiroth's evil deeds destroyed one village, an old President, some weak ShinRa MPs [Which Cloud and company killed a lot more of], and a flower girl. Hojo was a much better villain than Sephiroth was, and sorely underrated.
5. Vincent Valentine
Vincent, also, has an incredibly large fanbase. His popularity as a simple optional character warranted him his own game, where he starred as the main hero. Although Dirge of Cerberus was an awful game, it showed us more of Vincent's disturbing past.
4. Zack Fair
Crisis Core really breathed life into this character, and allowed for a much broader fanbase. Many fans of Cloud decided that they liked Zack more than Cloud. Zack's following began to grow with Last Order [since...a lot of people didn't know about that secret scene in FFVII], but was finalized with Crisis Core. Fans were allowed to better understand his story, and learned just how much of an impact he had on the FF7 world. Plus, it was rather refreshing to be able to play a FFVII game where the protagonist wasn't Master of Angst. Zack was a strong, light-hearted character, who even under harsh, horrible conditions, was able to pull through with a smile. He was a very lovable character.
3. Cloud Strife
Cloud is, by far, the most popular Hero in the Final Fantasy franchise. At first, Cloud was known as the 'guy who looks like a skinny Super Saiyan Goku, but eventually, he became known as 'Cloud Strife.'
Cloud has appeared in various Square Enix creations: Kingdom Hearts I & II, Ehrgeiz, Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Last Order.
Whenever the question of 'favorite Hero' comes up, Cloud is usually way up there, if not voted as number 1. He had a great amount of development, and had some very unique troubles that other FF heroes never had to deal with. Cloud was a very memorable character, because of all of his issues.
2. Aerith Gainsborough
No one could forget Aerith, the tragic heroine of Final Fantasy VII. It was Aerith's death that made her the unforgettable, and even 'holy' character that she became.
Aerith was so loved by fans that Square Enix decided to revive her from the dead many times. Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts I & II, Final Fantasy Tactics, etc. Personally, I sort of feel that all of the games Aerith keeps appearing in, is part of the reason why she's so unforgettable...because she's one ghost that just doesn't stop haunting.
1. Sephiroth
Despite the fact that I still believe Kefka and Kuja were better villains than Sephiroth, I will still admit this: Sephiroth is one of the most famous villains of video game history. Anyone who has played Final Fantasy, and even people who haven't, know who Sephiroth is. I'd venture to say he's the most famous Final Fantasy character ever created, which is the reason I've listed him as Numero Uno on this list.

Red XIII is way too low on that list. :(
Figured that either Sephiroth or Cloud would be number one.
Though I'm surprised that Vincent or Rufus did not make the list. I mean, Vincent's fandom is huge and Rufus is also a pretty popular character. (The did revive him for AC after all...)
Super shocked that Cait Sith even made the list. (Though I'm one of the few people out there that actually like him.)
